Canik TTI California legal transfer, private

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on making my Canik TTi compliant in California.

I had no issues converting the magazines to 10-rounds, but I’m running into other issues. The seller’s gun wasn’t registered in CA, and while other off-roster guns like the Glock Gen 5 went through fine, the Canik needs to be registered in California first, according to my dealer.

Also in other dealer, I’m hearing mixed things about the threaded barrel with comps being illegal. Did anyone buy a separate barrel or just register the frame?

Ideally, I’d like to transfer it as-is without modifications.
If you’ve gone through this process, please share your experience!
You can text me at 714-943-0112.

Thanks!

The TTI doesn’t have a threaded barrel. It’s a pinned QD comp design so that shouldn’t be an issue. It should only be the magazines that are the hang up.

Your dealer sounds like they are full of 💩 too. So long as the seller presents a valid CA identification at the time of the PPT, I don’t see why it would matter. It’s only if you where trying to buy it new that I could see an issue.

Wow thank you for the advice

1. Is the seller out of state and shipping to CA? If so, it’s no-go because only one Canik is on the roster and the the TTI is not. Only C&R, Olympic pistols and on-roster handguns can be shipped in from out of state

2. If the seller is a CA resident and is able to transfer face-to-face, the transaction is a PPT and off-roster handguns can be transferred. Non-residents cannot do a PPT in CA.

3. A off-roster handgun does not need to be modified to make it roster-compliant for a PPT transfer with a couple exceptions. 10+ capacity mags must be blocked to 10rds; if the pistol magazine is not inserted inside the grip (for example AR pistols, Tec-9, MP5K), the magazine must fixed/mag-locked or it’s classified as an assault weapon; threaded barrels need to be pinned and welded with a thread protector or comp or it is also classified as an assault weapon.

4. CADOJ doesn’t care if the gun has been previously registered in CA, it only cares that it is not stolen.

Thank you very much for detailed reply. Wow
Seller is in CA but not sure if he is residence in CA. Gun have not been registered in CA yet.

if the seller moved to california with the off roster pistol he has a window of when he must register it with the ca doj. he can sell it during that window to another california resident when the seller obtains a california id.

I see
The seller just obtained the CA ID.
Hmmmm

As long as the seller has a valid CA DL or State ID, most FFL’s do not ask any questions and will do the transfer…..I do know of an FFL in Burbank that has sellers of off roster guns sign a document stating that the gun has already been registered in CA…..I haven’t heard of any other FFL that does this but I wouldn’t be surprised if we start to seeing other FFL’s have somewhat of a similar thing
