Picked up these two Russian beauties earlier this year for what I consider highway robbery money. I caught them both as the sellers were swinging the prices down, minutes after they were relisted/posted. I've been resistin the urge to by Chinese SKS guns except Paratroopers. PAX
'51 Tulas as issued, no import stamp, $650 out of Oregon, NWFA boards

'51 Tula light refurb, no BBQ paint, matching numbers, only the stock was forced, $500 out of Texas, TGT forum

Good deals. You can hardly find any SKS nowadays for a reasonable price.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. There have been some very good buys listed from all over the country. I also acquired a KSI Hunter out of CO for half what I would have listed it for. These rifles came from folks that had one-offs, weren't really connected to them, have had them for some time and were willing to take a push on what they had into them. They missed the frenzy buying by 12 to 18 months. PAX

There was no such thing as a "Paratrooper" SKS that was used by any military, it was a 90's gimmick used by Norenco for sales just like tanker models of the Garand or M1A that other outfits sold on the civilian market, experimental only but never adapted for use. They were also well known for having sear problems where they would fire full auto in burst's.

Almost correct. The Paratrooper nomenclature was definitely a marketing instrument but came about before NORINCO was established. Short barreled, AK mag fed SKS rifles were captured in Nam ( Lyman's book pages 97-98) but never issued to Chinese air borne units. The first Para guns could have been built on well used/worn surplus rifles with the barrels chopped and the weapon not refurbed. Later Paras were either scrubbed and rebuilt or cut down new manufactured rifles. I had an incident with one of mine. My first SKS was a $70 dollar single shot (froze gas piston). Turned out to be a very rare Israeli capture rifle, seen here, PAX

That would have been a Rasheed if I'm not mistaken..

What I remember is only Norinco was offering Para SKS's in the 90's, never saw any other offered at gun shows from a different country. The Norinco's had fixed mags as far as any I have seen.

Completely incorrect. There's 3 pictures as well as capture documents, DD 603, identifying the weapon as a Chinese TYPE 56, it is obviously not a Rasheed. The underside shot shows that it doesn't have a mag well metal insert like a D or an M. It shows the mag removed and the stock hogged out for the mag and a wood insert where the standard mag hinge would go. It also has the standard front site base and bayo lug, so barrel was turned down after shortening, and a shorter spike bayo.

Also not accurate. NORINCO is the manufacturer, founded in 1980, which is why not all SKS rifles are marked "Made in China by NORINCO". The Paratroopers were modified by IMPORTORS, Briklee, Navy Arms, K-Sport, Polytech etc...and could have used donor rifles made before 1980 for the Para conversions (surplus or NOS), but are only from China and most all were converted in China. The various commercial SKS platforms do have some niche collector following and can fetch Russian money. Myself I mainly go after the short-skirted girls, but some full-length commercial rifles are quite rare. PAX
