Hey all. I'm considering picking up a lightly used 10/22. I've owned plenty of pistols, but only one other long gun.

What's considered a good deal on a 10/22? There's a ton of variants and options. I'm looking for something a little more than the base model rifle, but not something too tricked out. I believe these are highly customizable, though I'd prefer something like a modern synthetic stock, some sort of optic for plinking (magnifier scope or red dot), and maybe a target-grade barrel.

I'm looking to spend between $250-400 before any parts I'd add/buy - is that realistic? Thanks in advance.

Don't bother with a used rifle. You can get a new one in your price range.

It doesn't matter what's considered a good deal. In the history of mankind, no one has bought a gun (or a vehicle) without the first words out of their mouths as they tell their friends, "And I got a great deal"!

Should be able to find a good sale price on a new one this time of year. Use your savings on parts you want and ammo.

Cool deal... The black/grey one is for sale used in a Local Turners for about $250 but it's got a case and a scope included. I think i might prefer selecting my own optic/case if I'm starting at $200 plus taxes tho.

I was just wondering if I could squeeze more value out of the $$ for what I'm trying to do. :)

Agree - I have two 10/22’s. Buy a stock one and fix it up to meet your needs. Parts are cheap. If you’re in the sac area, I have a bunch of stocks. Happy to give you one.

Vortex makes a cheap but quality scope, red dots work well, I have a bi pod and after market stock on both. Ruger trigger and ER Shaw target barrel in a Magpul stock on one of them.

Another fun route to 10/22-ness is the stripped BRN-22 receivers from Brownells.

I got the railed version about a year ago for <$100 and made a ‘faux charger’ out of it.

I prefer Ammo Bros or Bass Pro, but thanx for the tip! :)
100%, haha!!

I used the price match to save me a long drive (x2) on a PX4 in .40 S&W. Smoking deal at a shop a long way from me. I went to Turners near me and they price matched.

But it was still Turners, so almost not worth it, haha!!

Good luck OP, you can’t go wrong with a 10/22. Customizable to infinity.

Food for thought, even though a used one is not that mych cheaper than a new one for sale, you have to rememebr that a new one will cost you 20% more that the price because of 9% sales tax and the 11% excise Gavin Newsom tax. Therefore, I would recommend a used one.

Then you've never bought an Atlas. Most painful money I've ever dropped on a gun. Stupid expensive, but better than any other Limited gun I've had.

I wouldn't shut down the idea of getting a used rifle. I was able to pick up a used 10/22 made in 1979 at Guns LA in Burbank for a little over $200. You would have thought that it was brand new, off the shelf. Looks as if it was never fired. Best part about it is that it has none of the cost saving plastic crap. As far as I can see, it's all metal and wood.

How does yours shoot? I put together one of the Brownells BRN-22's with their heavy barrel and I can't get it to group no matter what I try! Accuracy is absolutely terrible.

It shoots ok for a faux-charger, haha!! That’s a Faxon pencil barrel. Groups ok.

Yep - been looking for a PPT deal to save $$ for that exact reason.

I bought mine in 91 was my first purchase. New gun store opened up think it was 119. Right before I went for pick up it dropped
To 89 bucks they gave me that price then.

But I remember sales guy telling me about his first one and telling me he paid 60 bucks and at the time I was thinking 120 was a fortune. But like said they gave me the sale price at pick up for 89 plus tax and fees.

Still have the rifle too. It these days I think anything under 200 be a bargain.
