5.11 Covert Low-Profile LC12 backpack review

At SHOT Show 2026 my friends at 5.11 Tactical showed off their newest backpack, the 5.11 LVC12. LV stands for “Low Visibility,” and the 12 stands for 12-hour use. This backpack looks like a generic consumer backpack, hiding its tactical roots and features.

This backpack offers an ambidextrous pass-through CCW chamber with a strap, and hook-and-loop panels. Behind its generous 270º zippered main chamber, is a padded pocket that can fit 16″ laptop or a large SAPI plate. It has a street price of around $160 which makes it a more premium backpack than a Jansport backpack but is a fraction of the cost of the Staccotto and Level 4 plates you could have in it.

Why settle for just Gray Man when you can also go garnet, mahogany red, or midnight blue?

For me the new colorways are too flashy, I like being mostly un noticed. As a former employee the colors you mentioned typically sit until they end up in commerce during a warehouse sale.
Also that "additional pocket" is where they put the thin plastic backer to give some rigidity to the bag. Did you actually try putting a SAPI plate in it?

Thanks for that info. I guess the access is to allow you remove the plastic liner if you need to roll it up? No, my SAPI plates are smaller than my laptop so it 100% fits in comfortably.

I was told it just has to do with manufacturing. There are some other models that have a zipper there, but when they close it the pull is no longer accessible. Caused a lot of confusion for customers. For that pouch I'm guessing we're talking IIIA soft plates?

Hard, swimmers cut 10x12. It's thicker than my laptop but my laptop is 10"x14" which fits in the backpack.

That would have been a good addition to your video, my bags don't fit my hard plates in that rigid pouch. I have one in the laptop area.
