Advice on future rifle and cartridge

Military rifles don't matter here and shouldn't be a litmus test for what works in the two vastly different scenarios you laid out; target and hunting so that's a moot point. Military weapons and cartridges follow a different developmental path for different tasks, and while yes alot of the time those paths cross with the civilian world or we can draw from the military world, you'll find that even the world of US military small arms is starting to be influenced more and more by the civilian world than the other way around.

Now if you already own something (or all) of what's on your list there, that's kind of a different point that either wasn't made or I didn't pick up on. I'd *almost* always choose something I have currently than something I have to order, build, or build personal infrastructure around at the cost of cold, hard cash. But even that has limits, it's up to each person and the environment they're in to dictate where that line is.

Seen by some as top-tier, seen by some ex employees as not being able to provide the shop with hot water, regardless there's a McLaren dealership in the building somehow? Apparently Knight's was unaware (or blissfully ignorant) that other companies make SR25 cut and compatible receivers (again from an ex employee so take this with a grain of salt). They're both at the top and the bottom of the market at the same time, while one of the Knight's is having breakdowns and getting arrested

I have shot a wild hog with a Remington 700 30-06. It’s a fine rifle for the job. I sold that Remington 700 because I also have a Tikka T3x 308 that I prefer.

Most hog harvesting (99%+?) is done on private land in California. Don’t want to crush your dreams, but you will either have to know someone or pay someone.

In 2026 any gun store that doesn't carry 6.5 Creedmoor isn't one you want to visit. It's here to stay, it's proven it's worth, all the stupid "manbun" jokes about it are played out, and it can take game with the best of them. Shot placement is king above all else, and in order to ensure shot placement (aside from just not sucking), the gun that's easier to shoot will produce better results. 6.5 Creedmoor and PRC are arguably easier to shoot than comparable .30 cal due to physics (equal and opposite reaction kind of stuff).

I wouldn't pass up on a gun shop just because it doesn't carry x caliber as they all have their quirks and specialties. But I can also make the argument that a gun shop that doesn't carry older surplus isn't worth one to visit as it will just be overpriced Glocks and ARs.

Everything you said about aftermarket for the T3X goes for the Savage 110 and Remington 700 as well. I'd honestly say the 110 is a little more versatile aside from Tikkas action platform but Tikka has the better feeding.
110 barrels can be swapped by a yokel with a vise.
It's also worth checking out CZ - the only strike for them is there is -no- aftermarket.

You kinda nailed why I'm selling my CZ 600. Great rifle, but I really bought it for the wrong reason and there isnt enough of an aftermarket to turn it into what I would want. It's a shame too - that trigger and mag system are phenomenal.

My hunting rifles is in .30-06 with a 4x fixed scope. If I had to do it over again, I’d get it in .308 with a low power varriable option. What I have is perfect as is so I don’t plan to change it. Doing it over would be to minimize my caliber footprint.

Having shot a lot over my llfe, I find stocking multiple calibers annoying. I could easily live my life with .22 LR, 9 mm, .308, 12 gauge.

Wife wanted AR so I got her 5.56 since she isn’t a fan of punchy rounds… and she likes to burn rounds FAST.

I could see going to 5.56 over a .308 if hunting not a priority. Could even see it being 7.62x39 as well so hunting could also be an option as well as self defense.
