1.) it works consistently
2.) We bring up Gafshub/infinite armory/ar15/tacswap/snipershide and other sites.
3.) there's a number of overlapping members
4.) We're all long time members and want to see calguns recover
5.) We don't ban people for discussing other sites in the community

I think you get the idea... I also don't like the lies they try to spread, and I'll address any questions here. Like I've always done if there's any questions. I don't think the term 'bad blood' is right and want people to know there's no real bad blood. It's just the small but vocal group who's trying to spread rumors.

Plenty of people think i'm a liberal because I encourage people to discuss and discourage name calling and generalizing. When I'd consider myself an old school republican who prefers the old, agree to disagree with honor, morals and fiscal responsibility. I can't stand how both parties minorities try to speak for us all when they really don't anymore. I hate waste and we all know dem's in CA are wasteful. What we try to do is restore balance, but people fight it tooth an nail to get back to partisan politics and us vs them. I reject that and want to emphasize its a small group who can’t articulate beyond “liberals are bad”

I don't get logged off on Calguns but have been on the same log in for months now although I only use laptop and iPad never on my iPhone.

The banter over there about this site is pathetic at times. There is ONE specific member who seems self appointed to the role of "L-Site" spokesman. He has 2 or 3 followers who are demanding that things related to this site be blocked. Demanding to whom? No moderator there to hear their demands. Several are hanging on to the hope the owner will resurface and repair the site. I've been a contributor there for 14+ years and it's just sad to see the site go down. It's been been 3+ yrs and still no fix.

This site (while different) is working all the time and I personally believe there is room on the Great Big Internet for more than one California specific gun forum. The format here is much better and this sites works all the time. I've done 3 PPTs here and all great members.

It's funny how bent they get about this site over there. Those of us here do not get bent about that site or posts about that site. Post after post of disdain about Caguns whether it's about posts deletes or quoting things said a year ago. There is such anger, they cannot see the good of having a second site. Sad really.

I learned a lot there when I first started. There's still a huge knowledge base there, and it's sad that a website can't have 99.9% uptime in the year 2026. I'm sure hubris is involved, plus many who are left there either just use the marketplace or like their fraternity of exclusion.

I like the idea of including everyone who has questions and thoughts about firearms in California. Especially new and young gun owners, who represent the future. I never understood gatekeeping, then complaining about how "others" don't understand. I'd like to grow the legal gun owning community in this state.

I’ve been trying to get approved in Calguns so I can message users who have some stuff I’m interested in. Countless emails and they will not get back to me. Is there anyone that’s on there and can help me reach out to a couple listings?

If you look at how much time is spent, its very little compared to Calguns spends talking about here. As much as you stand up for them, I don't see you saying anything. I've told ikeo1 to leave it alone but some of those people are horrible. We'd get a lot more done if he didn't spend time there, but if someone was trying to trash your name and reputation, would you let it slide? I know, I wouldn't like it.

We've built something good here, and didn't expect would get the kind of traction it did. Calguns has a legacy we want to keep intact but I think it's time to move on too...

Actually, I sort of do, and I sort of don't.

If you say "I want to have multiple forums with gun-related discussions, perhaps with different target audiences, perhaps with different main focus (technical versus politics+legislation versus selling/trading)", then my answer is: Yes, but fragmenting the audience is not a good idea. If I need an answer to whether my Heckler+Wesson model ABC is on the roster, or handles 987Magnum ammo well, I don't want to have to ask on 47 different places. On the other hand, having specialized forums can increase the addressable market slightly.

If you say "I want to have a forum where MAGA-style nut jobs (or nut jobs of any other flavor) can spend 90% of all posts hating everyone who is not like them, where very little technical information is exchanged, and where discussion of gun control politics, policy and legislation is flat out impossible because of the tinfoil hattery and nut jobbery, then I don't want to see it recover at all. Except perhaps as a honeypot to attract the people I don't want to associate with.

If you say "P*** N***b*** deserves a 6-figure income without doing any work, because he's such a sweet guy", my answer will be maniacal laughter. No, he doesn't, and he isn't. He may need some serious professional help, but from a personality point of view, he is very much the wrong person to run a discussion forum. Although there are worse ones out there ... anyone remember the SIG forum and Mike Packwood?

The bad blood is just really negative people who change the story over time. They think I’m against guns because I’ve had a few friends murdered in the past. They didn’t like the fact that I said they got shot and instead kept saying it’s not the gun it’s the person. I got upset with the stupidity of it, like no Sherlock but they still got shot with a gun. It kept going in circles for a bit because they don’t understand that guns are used in crimes and think they’re inanimate objects that do nothing and are used specifically for freedom only.

Not only that, but they think asking people how to improve things is bad. It’s quite laughable. They make a lot of accusations about me but don’t recall who said what, just recall some things were deleted. Yes, I removed some details of my friends murders because I thought at the time it was good will. Instead you can still see them using it as a reason why I’m anti 2A, while they’re trying to protect it from gun grabbers, liberals, commies, and don’t live in the state.

They can’t explain though why this site exists, instead call it a deflection when I ask. Some of us, don’t get their introduction to firearms from their dad or service. Some of us were traumatized and want to do what’s right for the community by teaching people to protect them and their families from criminals. I took it seriously after covid after we have several strong arm robberies in my neighborhood and people were buying without training back in 2020-2021. I said I was relatively new but that’s still 5-6 years of experience now and we bring in the best resources.

What they don’t know is that I’ve worked with several communities over the years volunteering and building them. We avoid conflicts here that cause problems in the community where they want the conflict as entertainment. Look at the posts in OT and you’ll see they’re not really seriously connecting or building anything with substance. Not everyone is like that there, but the vocal minority don’t see they’re keeping the site small. They know they’ll never meet each other IRL. The moderate people remember how old Calguns was and the way people talked to each other isn't the same as now

I just had this conversation with the youngsters in my family the other day. I told them how when I was growing up, that I and friends of mine who might be on opposite sides poitically respected each others opinions, and just agreed to disagree. Those things never came between our friendship. These days it's a different story. If you disagree people try to dox you or drag your name through the mud on social media, or worse. Just some really disgrusting times we are living in.
