Feedback Auto Approve Feedback or have a Review?

Hey everyone,

We're back with another request for feedback on feedback. Currently, we look at each listing to make sure it's not a duplicate, has a classified link, and isn't suspicious. With the site growing, i wanted to throw out there this discussion.

Do you care about linking the classified listing being sold tied to the feedback or do you think it should just be approved without any type of verification? Personally, i think there's not a lot of value if anyone can leave feedback for anything, but I'll let you guys help me decide because there is a lot of overhead with it.

Does knowing the person transacted on actual items help you trust the feedback more? Or would you be ok with leaving it blank and just having a line of feedback without approval?

Let me know your thoughts. I'm curious to see what's sustainable.

The volume is starting to pick up and i'm thinking of building a bot to check if there is a listing or not that's tied with the feedback. The other option is to just say f it, and let people submit feedback without a link or approval. I opt for the latter former, but I know its strict and I feel offers better integrity for the feedback, but I'd like to hear some thoughts.

I like having the sale post linked to the feedback. The manual approval for feedback is tad annoying

My first thought with the approval system is it would get too overwhelming as the site grows.

As for the link, yes I like to have the link so I can track who and what transaction I did. I buy, sell and trade so it's nice to have the link featured. I've completed thousands of transactions over the years and have always kept track through feedback.

On CalGuns, the iTrader system wouldn’t let you leave feedback unless you provided a valid link. AFAIK, there was no manual verification. Either the system saw the link was valid or it didn’t.

Nothing would stop someone from just picking a link in the For Sale section and using it, but it was at least a small hoop to jump through.

Bottom line: I like the idea of at minimum having a link to an actual classified listing before feedback can be left. Needs to be automated though. Way too much work for you and the mods to handle as this scales up.

I liked having it mandatory for both sides to leave feedback with the link. In the long run it helps seasoned forum users weed out potential scammers and flakes. Also holds sellers accountable.

The feedback system needs some kind of integrity. Cannot be unmonitored.
