my very first ppt firearm purchase, i drove an hour to the store and got no call no showed. it happens. i was so pissed

Unfortunately, there's no foolproof way to prevent flakes from from succeeding at what they do.
There's a few things that you can do to reduce the chances.
I always have a verbal conversation or two with a potential buyer to try and confirm it's someone I want to do business with.
If they don't want to talk, they're out. Texting only doesn't work for me.
Have a verbal conversation with the buyer the day before you are going to meet for the sale to make sure it's still on,
Tell them you'll call (or tell them to call you) before you leave to meet at the gun shop.
If they don't answer and confirm verbally on the second call, text them that you aren't going to meet with them, until the meeting is confirmed verbally.
I also put in my listings that "the first person that shows up with the cash gets the item." It's the same as a retail sale.
If there are multiple interested parties, I let them all know my availability and if there are others that are interested.
First one to show up gets it.

I had a buyer on this site begging me to ship two lots of items after I specifically said no shipping. He got pissy after I told him no, and that if a local buyer refused the first lot I would consider shipping. Sold my first set and agreed to ship the second lot after no interest from local traders. Went to the post office, took pictures of me at the post with the package, and asked for his address.
When it came to the payment, I called him and he started complaining that the 20 dollar USPS flat rate shipping was "too much" and did not want to pay me the difference. He "was in a dead zone" got off the phone and "could only text" after that moment. He then demanded to pay me as a vendor sale only on paypal ( meaning he would get buyer protection, and I would need to pay sales tax as a seller, and cannot collect funds until after 60 days) and said if I did not want to ship anymore that was fine. At that point I knew it was a scam as someone with that buyer protection can claim the items were damaged/missing, refuse to ship back, get the refund amount and I can get penalized for "being a bad seller". Told him to take a hike and left. 10 minuets later he tells me he doesn't have any cash and could only use paypal credit....
By the end of it I made a new listing (which he followed) and gave away all the parts just to spite him

People suck sometimes and it happens.. I almost had a bad experience but it ended ok - all the others were fine. I sell alot of random stuff on FB marketplace and when people say they are coming then ghost me I dont even care anymore because I expect it- happens on every sale lol
