Im in the bay area but i see interesting offers in other cities across the state. Are there good ways to ship and transfer guns without meeting in person?

From my limited understanding the gun has to be shipped to an FFL where you can begin the DROS process. The gun must be on the roster. Also the FFL will charge a 75 dollar handling fee or more on top of the DROS and shipping costs. For sales tax if the gun is coming from out of state you have to pay that too. Within the state on a PPT I’m not sure about that, probably not.

If handgun, yes, it needs to be on roster or somehow exempt from it if being shipped. It isn't a PPT then and is being transferred from FFL inventory to you so all roster rules apply just like if you were buying it from the shop.
 
short answer is no not really good options they are all too costly unless the gun is 1/2 the going market and is over $500 or so.
Big hassle esp if something goes wrong.
If you want to proceed you need a good FFL to ship for you.
 
Unless the deal is insane or it's a rare type of gun the hassle doesn't seem worth it.

Yes.
You can not do PPT's without both the seller and the buyer being in the same location.
That means that either the buyer or the seller needs to drive across the state in order to do a PPT across the state.
The buyer will need to do it twice so it's worth paying the seller to do it once so that the buyer can use a local FFL.
