I saw these for sale at Sportsman's...

It's like the worst of both worlds, firearm money for a non-gun, that looks just like a gun without the capability if there is a lethal threat. Outside of niche cases I have no idea why anyone would carry that over a CCW. And if you couldn't have a handgun, OC spray is way cheaper and effective and won't get you shot.

Yeah it's basically a paintball gun. If you are wearing a thick sweater you reduce the effectiveness of it by like 90%.

Also I believe Sportsman's is still doing live demos/tests for it if you were curious to try it in person.

The chemical/pepper load in the balls is empty for California sales. Completely empty balls.
One of the rare times where empty balls is a bad thing

I've seen metal in the small 'shooting range' at a Sportsman that is dented like the sign in my avatar, just not clear through. These are like a .22LR pistol in my opinion. I'd not want to be shot by either.

That said, probably not going to stake my life on either.

That’s where I saw it. Didn’t really think anything but I just googled what it is today and it seems like such a dumb concept. Yeah let me try to shoot with this airsoft gun that looks like a real gun at a glance vs people that could have real guns lol

Wouldn"t compare to airsoft by a mile, paintball would be a closer comparison.
Same size projectile and similar speed but uses a solid plastic projectile instead of paint filled gel cap. I've been shot with paintballs at close range and it is painful. I've had hematomas and have bled from paintball shots, getting shot with a .68 caliber solid projectile I imagine would be a lot worse.
