C&r purchases

I have read in a bunch of places that one can use their FFL 03 to purchase c&r long guns in California without an intermediate FFL 01. But I cannot find any rules that apply to buying c&r handguns from another California resident does anyone know if an FFL transfer is required?

Still have to go through an FFL for handguns, but you’re exempt from the 10 day wait on c&r handguns.
