Is it possible to change the classified bump to where we are able to bump once per 24 hour period as opposed to 24 hours from when we last bumped the ad? Sometimes you want to bump your ad, but you can't because 24 hours haven't gone by, and then you forget to come back later bump it altogether. Also, sometimes you might want to bump at different times of the day depending on if it's a weekday or weekend. So ability to bump any time from midnight to 11:59 PM? I think it would be nice to have that ability as long as you are still able to limit people to one bump per day so that bumps don't get abused like they did on Calguns.

This feature is available for folks with the CAsupporters subscription. The main point was free accounts have a certain limit on how many bumps because like you said on Calguns, there was a bit of abuse. We also want to keep the listings fresh so new listings don't get drowned out. We currently have 800+ listings, so we allow people who help support the site more frequent bumps.

As it goes on, we may increase the time inbetween bumps from 24 hrs to 48 hours etc. You can imaging when we get to 1k+ listings. Mainly to keep listings fresh on the main feed. This DOES NOT affect searches. If people are looking specifically for your item, it'll pop up.

We figured this is the fairest way to keep things moving and also provide a perk for the folks who help us keep the lights on. Any donation will get you 6 months and the monthly is perpetual. Plus you get 1 featured listing

The 24 hour bump thing is dumb. Folks looking for your stuff will see it if it's 2 or 3 days old. It's fine. Even on CG where loads of new stuff was listed all the time, a 2 day old ad didn't get lost anywhere.

Less frequent bumps, not more. And also, blocking and deleting ads that WEREN'T bumped in 72 hours was dumb as hell too.

I agree with the OP and it was a nice feature to bump once a day when convenient. Now Funding Members do not get that feature any longer, that's a real bummer.

This is moved to 2 days, but you can now enable auto-bump. The rationale is, the same item being bumped everyday with the same users is more likely to get you ignored, plus with auto bumping now available (this is posted in the members channel), we don't want everyone to bump at the same time and have the feed flooded with only supporters. This keeps the listings more diverse.

Instead with two days, there will be a stagger effect, so supporters no longer have to press the "bump" button everytime. It happens automatically. We're still testing it out but we've found most people ignore stale listings.

We're also looking to extend the Saved Search feature and search filter to allow "unread" and "read". So if you've already seen it you can filter it so you only get the newest ones.

Go to the edit function and enable auto-bump and you won't have to manually do it. Plus there's logs so you can see when it was bumped.

At the time that was written there was 800 listings. Now there's close to 3,000.

It's nice if someone wants to do that but I do not care for it. I'll give a couple examples as a buyer and seller:

As a buyer, if I only come to the site at one certain time a day because of my schedule, (before work, lunch, afterwork) I'd only see the same exact listings that were getting auto-bumped at that time. (a lot of people just scan the first page and do not go multi pages back just to browse)

As a seller, if I made a post at some off hour like 4am, only a couple people would ever see the listing, who ever is up and happened to look at that time in the morning.


Like the OP said, I'd liked being able to bump at different times of the day to get a broader audience to see my listings. (it does make a difference as you can see in your site traffic log I've seen you post) If everyone used the auto-bump feature, all the same posts would be listed at the same time every other day and that could get stale too if someone has limited access to the site during the day and only see the same listings.

I do appreciate you guys trying to make the site easier though, this feature is just not for me and I don't like that I cannot use the forum in the same way anymore.

It changed a couple days ago. The only difference is you have to wait an extra 24 hours but get the choice of auto bump. There’s nothing stopping you from bumping if it’s every once in awhile. You don’t have to use auto bump.

You can still bump anytime you want. But if you were bumping multiple times throughout the day, then that was never the intended use for the bump feature it’s always been once in a 24 hour period. We just left it as honor system but because of the new feature we are enforcing the limit to enable auto.

If there’s others who feel the same way, then sure, we can see. But unless you’re doing it everyday it shouldn’t make much of a difference. It’s just a matter of scaling with the number of users.

This feature was requested by a number of users or we wouldn’t have invested to have it built. We can make adjustments, but give it a shot.

I never abused that feature and only bumped 1 time each day. It was just nice to choose what time that was instead of now having to wait exactly 24 hours from the last bump.

It’s not off the table but we may have to offer a higher tier to limit the use as the site continues to grow. We’re significantly larger than before. For now you get everything as we build it. We’ll see what works and what doesn’t and make adjustments.

I appreciate the feedback ultimately that’s what lets me know what’s working or not, so don’t get me wrong. With all the improvements it comes at a cost. It would suck if it was going in the wrong direction. I want to make sure I invest in the areas that are most useful to people that help support the site and encourage subscribers since they help support the site for everyone to keep the main features free for the masses. It’s starting to get pricey! Cloud ain’t cheap!

You asked, so I'll tell ya. Don't get mad if you don't like what I say.

Bumping is like spamming. If you're selling a good item at a good price, you don't have to throw it in everyone's face every 24 hours. As a buyer who might check in once a week, I don't want to see the same overpriced common guns seven times. Once is enough. Any more, and It becomes irritating and drives me away. For sellers who feel compelled to bump their item as frequently as possible, consider this: If your gun was all that great, it would have sold by now. Instead of "bumping" it, maybe you should lower the price.
