Here is $0 but people will still complain when we try to keep things up to date, fast, and grow to get more people for the whole ecosystem.
I also just got notice my hosting fees are about to increase. The frigging AI datacenter tax is starting to hit. It’s gonna be felt all around. GAFS grew pretty fast and they’re limited on features so for them we’re all about the same size right now. Scrap that, they’re bigger now.. I’m curious to see how they’ll handle all the long term growth without charging. This kind of infrastructure isn’t cheap.

It makes sense from a company corp function. GAFS would be able to produce if they monetized. We artificially restrict our growth so they’ve grown beyond us being national and allowing shipping. We also automatically restrict accounts outside CA.
Fair is relative. Some people think free is the only fair. Ultimately why there’s room in the space for new contestants.
Overall I still think the platform here is better and easier to use but they had the core buyer/seller audience who are super loyal so props to them for their continued growth.

They make money "now" through vendor access. Before I think April of this year vendor access was free and you just had to apply with the proper paperwork to get timestamp exemptions and more. I think last I read they're currently at ~35k users, r/GAFS was ~300k before they got nuked. More and more people are joining, it's a great site

If we were in CA or had restrictions we could continue to grow but there’s a lot of safeguards to protect users.
Honestly a part of me has been wanting to drop the VPN safeguards because of the inconvenience and allow the community itself to normalize to not sending payments via Zelle or F&F. I’ve been waiting to open things up.
Caguns is good. GAFS is better for parts. The number and variety of things for sale is amazing. Site has been 100% reliable for me and I check 100 times a day or more. Well worth making a free account to check out.

My only question or issue is wondering if the CADOJ is going to go after them eventually because they’re an obvious loop hole to build scary things. We have to take it into account because we’re in CA so I’m curious to see how that story plays out.
They’re definitely the go to for parts though..

Because they are hosting people selling into CA bypassing CA laws. The FTB is no joke and they’re known to be litigious. Considering GAFS isn’t a big company, they might force them to update policies. CAguns isn’t located in CA but we still follow all the laws
From what I see folks don't ship banned things to banned states. The law that requires all parts to go through FFL's doesn't apply to private folks except barrels of course.
