So username Sturgeonitis real name Jerry. Been an avid shooter and supporter to gun rights all my adult life. Luckily there aren't all that many weapons that interested me that at one time or another that I didn't get to try at some point. Being in my 60's I've bought and sold many different pistols and rifles. (Every one completely legally). When I was younger a friend and I even went crazy in reloading for about 5 years.
It was back in the 80's .We reloaded quite a few calibers. If I can remember them all. There was .380, .9mm , .38, .357, .44, .45 acp, .3006, .3030, .308, .223, and 12guage. We had a lot of fun for a long time. Of course safety always came first. Luckily we both had good jobs or none of it would have been possible. We spent lots of time up at the palo alto outdoor range.
Just a couple notes on favorites over time and duds as well. On the duds side my friend owned an uzi. What a piece of poop. I owned a .22 lugar I thought sucked bad. Most everything else we bought was decent over time. I think the best were my model 19 sw 5" police special . It would shoot .38 as well as .357. after 20 years I did replace it. My wife old never get used to the kick of firing .357 rounds from it. Probably cause of the smaller frame. But it was a beloved piece. What I replaced it with we both love to this day.
I was lucky in that my brother and sister in law owned Askew gunsmithing. At the end of their time they were building sniper weapons for Santa clara county highway patrol as well as the sheriff's dept. Anyway I had decided I wanted a .45. well I ended up with a mil spec Springfield armory.45 that my brother in law had modified from the day I bought it new. By the time my 15 days had passed the had polished the feed ramp, replaced the trigger with a wilson combat trigger set at 4 pounds. Replaced the firing pin and the extractor. He wouldn't tell me what he did to the barrel or anything else however. I think I. The30 plus years I've had it the accuracy has been perfect, in all this time I think it has jammed less than 5 times total. Now I have replaced the firing pin twice and it's spring. I have added a few different magazines most with wilson +2s added. I don't know why though I only load 6 rounds. I've always joked with my friends that I just don't need more. If I missed 5 times that I would put the 6th one on my own head. I never miss twice so that was safe. Lol
Obviously my fav of all time. The other that stood out back then was my friends .223. there had never been a rifle like the m16.light,accurate, easy to maintain.we both loved that thing.we must have reloaded close to 250k rounds. And replaced a lot of parts.
I think I've been long winded enough. This looks like a cool place glad I'm here and will be glad to meet you all. I will be posting a killer offering soon as I figure this place out. Just had a surgery and can no longer handle my calif legal FN SCAR 20s.
