I can't shoot handguns.

Anyone got this unique issue?
I have served, and I don't know, ever since service ended 2 decades+ ago, I can't hold anything that needs concentration without dominant hand trembling.

You see that Saving Private Ryan? The character Tom Hanks plays? The part where it shows his hand shaking while holding a compass and map? That F shakes.

It came and gone over the years, but today I realized, no matter how much I tried, my dominant hand would not stop trembling, and now I realized, I don't think I will ever be able to fire a handgun with steady aim. I won't miss, but I ain't going to win anything related to accuracy for handguns ever.

Throughout shooting as a civilian, I thought the trembling would stop or I'd be able to control it somewhat, but damn, today I realized, this ain't ever going to work.

I now realized the true need for pistol braces.

I thought about selling my one and only (whew, never really bought much pistols or at all) p320. But realized I need a flux, but since I am in CA, I do need to sell it lol.

Anyone else a strictly long gun shooter or non-handgun shooter because of reasons?

Gotta say, I hate to admit this, I guess in denial, didn't want to accept this, but it is what it is.

What do the docs say? If the Western docs can't solve the problem, maybe a Chinese doctor with his needles and herbs can do the trick.

While we all have our limitations, your condition makes me think you may be a potential plaintiff in a CRPA case challenging laws such as “the roster.” California loves to bestow all kinds of extra advantages to everyone they deem special, except disabled gun owners. You would have standing to challenge the artificial limits that California puts on deciding who needs what.

You should be able to purchase anything that makes defending yourself possible by overcoming the disability.

I would suggest an exam by a Doctor. From there you should be able to correct your issue.

Involuntary hand trembling (when you’re trying to hold it still) may be a physiological symptom of hyperthyroidism; or Parkinson’s. Have you had this condition evaluated by a doctor?

I think the OP is asking a valid question about a condition and what if anybody has done to resolve it.
Anyone can live with it and jokes about it are not helpful.
My uncle is suffering from the same "shakes in his right hand only"
Is a Vietnam Veteran that was exposed to Agent Orange.
He is very young compared to my dad and siblings.
No one in a very large family group has had to deal with this problem.
His Dr. has not been able to reduce the shakes.
At this time he has learned to become left handed.
just using a cell phone has become a problem and he has to relay on voice rather then hand/finger.
Unfortunately after his service he sold all his hunting rifles and no longer owns any firearms.
I have no advice but hope someone can chime in with productive feedback to the OP.

A serious answer without sugarcoating:

This is not the place to get a diagnosis, nevermind a prescription/course of care. What others have had is not a benchmark for your care.

You have had this condition for 2 decades. Have you had it assessed by competent medical practitioners?

It may have have arisen as a result of your service or not. At this point, it’s irrelevant until diagnosed. The diagnosis may then point to causation.

It could be an “essential tremor”, Parkinson’s or Multiple Sclerosis.

Or none of these and something else.

Your condition as you describe it is deteriorating. That means what you’ve done for 20 years isn’t working.

You need to talk to a primary care physician and probably get a referral to a neurologist, sooner rather than later.

You can’t get that here.

End of tough love. I’m 73, and deterioration of abilities is a truth. It hits us all, but competent medical care can help manage. However, I have found one sometimes has to kick in the door to get the system to respond.

I wasn't looking for a diagnoses. I am pretty sure I know what I have. It was more like a rant/conversion starter.

I think I'm going to either sell or trade toward something else.

If I lived in free states, I'd get sbrs tax stamped or "outside the grip magazine fed" pistols with braces, eh. It is what it is.

That would be my suggestion. Those who don't have the shakes should practice shooting left and right anyways

Both hands, or just your dominant?

Dominant hand shakes.

Offhand shakes, but not as pronounced as the right, only shakes when my dominant hand shakes an extended amount of time (~30mins~1+ hours.)

I know it is definitely service related. So yea, its something I need to deal with via my VA. I'm currently 50%+, not yet 100% disabled.
