In defense of the Smith and Wesson Sigma

I’m going to say something that may surprise some here: I like my Smith and Wesson Sigma. Some may think I’m crazy, and that the Sigma is a blight on a storied brand like S&W. But have you ever actually fired one?

Yeah, the trigger isn’t great. Yeah, it’s not the best built pistol in the world (but I would argue that it is far from the worst Glock knock off). But it goes bang every time I want it to, it’s plenty accurate, it’s light and it’s compact enough for concealed carry. And I paid about $200 for it. How many other name brand, reliable handguns can you get for that price? It eventually evolved into the current SD series and those do have a somewhat improved trigger, but I sold my SD and kept my Sigma. It’s really not as bad as some make it out to be.

So it goes with a lot of pistols, right? I’m thinking of the Shield 1.0 as a recent-ish example. I have two (9 & 40) and they’re great carry pistols. They ‘just’ missed the optics era, so they get dismissed. And the triggers are ‘horrendous’ haha!! I just picked up a 40 with hi-viz sights for $299 brand new from Turners. Runs like a champ.

Sigma is nothing to write home about, but they are decent pistols. I just do not like the jointed trigger/ safety.

Personally, I think they never really caught on because they are generic looking more than anything.

What I would really like to find is one of the rare SW357s in .357 Sig, but those go for prices that I don’t want to pay for a Sigma when they even come up. Or a rare SW40P with the two tone slide and ported barrel, but those are also hard to find.

Tbh the SD is a significant improvement on the Sigma.

Boooooo. I like my PX4. Though to be fair mine is a “slick slide” variant and I think it’s lines are better than models with a manual safety.
