Is selling reloaded ammunition "ok"

I'm new to being active in the 2A hobby and shooting in general. I inherited a few guns from my father in law who recently passed away. He was a prolific reloader and while almost all of his inventory was confiscated and "disbursed" (firearms and reload supply), one of the firearms i received included about 1500 rounds of reloaded ammunition.

Being new to the sport I'm not sure I want to use it and wondering if its legal/ok to try and sell the ammunition and if anyone would be interested. It is for a Remington 722 rifle, the reloads being a "300 Savage" bullet. Each box of rounds include a small slip of the load specifics, but am not sure if this can be safely, properly be sold - would consider selling the rifle as part of a package. I have read that some reloaders might even be interested in this as "parts" since the brass is so specific.

Again, being new I don't want to do something wrong and don't want to ask in the wrong places but hoping someone here can help.

As long as you're up front and honest about it being reloads, and that it should only be considered as components and not ready to fire ammo, you'll be fine.

The 1500 rounds may make it tougher in CA with the per-month limits, if you and the buyer care about such things.

Thank you for your response! I don't know about the California per-month limits but will look it up. I'll try and figure out how to do the listing as components and go from there and maybe try to package the rifle in with it though i guess someone interested in the components already has their own.

Its great to know at least that on this site and can do this.

If it’s not reloaded by a manufacturer then you can’t sell it. If they’re hand loaded it’s a no go. If they’re reman by a company then you can or else you need a license and it’s a lot of liability

IIRC you can't make and sell reloaded ammo without the proper paperwork and licences (Federal and State). For one it's a huge financial liability if someone gets injured or worse from reloaded ammo you sold them whether or not you loaded yourself. IIMHO the only options would be disassemble and sell the components bullets/primed brass and properly dispose of the powder or call your local shooting range/PD to ask them about disposing of the ammo for you.

If you plan to keep the gun, shoot your shot. 300 Savage factory ammo is near non-existant, and it does cost a bit if you did find some. 1500 rounds for it may last you a lifetime.

A neighbor went through figuring this out. Selling reloaded ammo as an individual is federally illegal. You need a very specific FFL license for that.

That's in addition to all the California paperwork: Limit of 500 rounds per month, have to go through an FFL, and so on.
