KelTec Sub2000 Gen3 Mods

I have a KelTec Sub 2000, Gen 3 that I purchased in a free state, where I have another residence. I have modified it, trying to be California Legal. I purchased a kit from KelTec that included the stupid fin for that scary grip and a replacement stock that is not adjustable. My problem is that the non-adjustable stock in the kit is fully extended and I would prefer to have a stock fully retracted position, so last night I tried to correct the problem. I filled the holes on the original adjustable stock so it could not be adjusted. Yes, those are spent 9mm casings, they filled the holes perfectly after cutting 1/2" (13mm) of length off. Does this make me California-compliant? If anyone is interested, I have more photos.

As long as the minimum overall length is 30” when it’s open, you should be good.

To adjust, do you push the stock pin out, adjust to one of the 3 positions and push the pin back in?

I would install some type of security screw and nut and locktite it so it’s “permanent” after making sure it’s to the CA legal length.

In it's original configuration, it was adjustable, now there is only one position. The metal pin that you see in the stock must be removed to facilitate cleaning, so it must remain removable.

I would plug the other two holes with some black plastic rods and super glue.

Otherwise, LE could make the claim you have an adjustable stock/CA assault rifle.

You want the opposite of this - stock all the way in instead of all the way out, correct?

Not sure what would work well to plug up the holes.

I tried to plug the holes up with JB Weld, but the plugs just fell out as I removed the painter's tape that was used to protect the inner and outer surfaces, which is why I tried the brass plug idea.

Correct, I want the stock to be as far in as possible. The stock shipped with my "California Kit" made the stock as far out as possible.

Looks cool but I don’t think it will work. I hate that it’s fully extended as well. Wish I could use the smallest setting as well. I thought about drilling out the holes and then filling in the original holes with epoxy or something similar and spraying the butt stock. Looks really cool tho.

Be careful with the overall length... I seem to remember that the stock has to be fully extended to meet the OAL requirement, and that was why KT has them set up the way they do for a CA compliant version - it's not just about the stock not being adjustable.

I remember seeing that in the description. If it met the overall length in the middle and last (all the way out) positions, Kel Tec would have plugged the first (all the way in) hole only. I would keep the CA stock on it.

I measured my Sub2000 and with my modified stock, it does not meet the California regulations and I have reinstalled the California stock. I will keep the original to use when I am not in California. Thanks for the advice and suggestions.

My Sub2000 remains a family favorite at our local range. I also have a Ruger PC9 that is a runner-up to the Sub2000. The handle "fin" on the Sub2000 feels "stupid," but I am trying to comply with California regulations while in California. But when I travel to my home in a free state, well, I do as the Romans did while in Rome.

JB Weld is great for the things it works well on. But smooth plastics are not the right target for JB Weld.
Wash with acetone, then use a methacrylate epoxy. There are "plastic epoxies" from the JB Weld company,
and those are OK. I have used several for (of all things) luggage wheel/caster/socket repair. You might want
to try this product from Amazon.
