I have an M1A scout squad with a walnut stock. I find myself shooting more from the prone or on a bench using a bag, then shoulder fired these days. What’s the best option out there for a fold down Harris style bipod?

Mine is a fiberglass stock but the process is the same I believe and you don't touch the vent hole.

Awesome write up! Thanks for sharing that. Now I’m leaning towards swapping out the walnut stock for a fiberglass one. This way the beautiful walnut stock can stay preserved.

I'm not in love with the fiberglass stock. It tends to get sticky when the gun heats up so I've been thinking of getting a birch/maple stock and going at it again.
If MDT had some balls they'd bring the JAE back to the M1A but NooooOOOOooo

Get the Midwest Industries Magpul bipod with their QD mount. Nice to be able to take it off or move it around if you want and the QD is a nice convenience.

I was looking hard at the JAE for a 6.5 Creedmoor build. Beautiful stock. But damn, was it pricey. I think because it was scarce at the time. I went with their ACC Elite instead. It looks like on the MDT website, the JAE is back for Remington 700SA

What's sadder is that MDT isn't manufacturing the LRA Palma Rear sight after they acquired LRA several years back.

Harris bipods are really hard to beat. I have a couple of them and they just have never given me a problem. I grabbed few different magpul bipods on sale over the years and they are good, but for the money I’ll just get Harris. If a Harris won’t work for me ARCA with a tripod time.
