This is a CA forum, and people are dealing with individuals. Why not just negotiate versus thread-crapping? That's how it's been done since humans have been buying and selling.

I think the best strategy is not shaming but sincere communication via DM. Not everyone rssponds to shaming in predictable fashion, and some can react very badly.

I will always favor a buyer with whom I've communicated and who writes well and respectfully versus the obvious lowballer or reckless/sloppy tire-kicker.

If I like the person and they approach in the way most respectful humans do, they're going to get my best price. They may be the only buyer to whom I want to sell, even if I have a few backups.

Plus, a pleasant pre-sale text and/or voice exchange bodes well for the PPT experience.

Even if there's no transaction from a DM, you might make some friends.

For sure, I chose to say "shaming" to be funny but what I mean is more just comments about why a glock can never cost 3k. I've had DMs with a certain Marvel character here who claims that his Springfields are "LEO only" but are actually just "LEO gets them even cheaper" and he's still up at 3x retail price pretty sure we are coming up on a year... but whatever

Not really sure how the forum would improve by encouraging twats to post in other peoples classified ads. Pretending it would only be done is good faith and in the interest of "improving the marketplace" is laughable.

It made what gafs is. A marketplace that many listings are sold and bought within seconds.

Adding just a few observations from past dealings at the other place...
1. When my listing was priced at the average, thread crapping still occurred. Possibly from others selling the same item with inferior quality, or from forum haters/trolls?
2. When the listing price includes the "OBO" or "Make me an offer" tags, thread crapping still occurred. Instead, it would make sense to make an offer of what they would consider reasonable if they were seriously interested.
3. There is no indication that serious buyers do thread crapping because if they want to get the best deal possible, then shaming/thread crapping defeats the purpose of getting a deal.

Instead of shaming/thread crapping, it is best to ask questions to understand the logic behind the pricing.

Well, Ikeo made realgafs.com when gafs on reddit died in hopes for people to use it. No one wanted it as it had quid pro quo and favors the people that cry about threadcraps.

Gafs users would surely not have used it as it has rules that doesn't favor gafs users.

Gafshub allows threadcrap. Also considered best 2nd hand marketplace for a reason.

Having been on this site almost 2 years, and looking at the classifieds at least several times per week if not several times per day , it's clear the "free market" isn't working. I'm looking at the same ads for months and even years, with no price changes. People seem to forget that it's called the "sunk cost fallacy" and they seem to think they haven't lost the money until they sell it, even though they have no money at all until they sell the thing. Having been on Calguns a bit recently (... yeah) there is a striking difference in how long people here will actively refresh their ads and keep them up for months without updating the pricing. On Calguns it's much harder to do and people are more motivated to sell. But another big difference is that you can also shame people there and comment when it's a dumb price. I know IKEO has talked about this topic quite a bit and has a specific vision for the site which I totally get, and a big part of that is just to have less people fighting which results in more site moderation required. But realistically it's getting to be a drag to sift through the same ads day after day for people asking bonkers prices on mediocre stuff. I do think it actually affects the quality of the marketplace to have so much unsold stuff that you have to wade through to use the marketplace. I honestly think it would be better if comments on pricing were allowed and even encouraged, we need to cull some of this stuff. But that's just my ty opinion

Were you aware you can filter ads by their create date and by the last update? That allows you to view only those ads that have been created or updated since your last visit.

As for pricing, have you seen something you wanted but the price was too high? Did you try politely making an offer? You don't have to understand why someone is asking a certain price and you don't have to explain your offer. It can be a simple matter of yes or no, thank you for your time. I have found many times that an offer that is rejected today is accepted tomorrow.

As for shaming, does that kind of communication tenderize you or does it make you indignant? I would never sell to someone who is abusive to me, unless of course they wanted to buy at price where I made a ridiculous profit and I knew the idiot was getting hosed. You are better off keeping your negotiations private and remaining cordial. Snarky comments are nowhere near as effective as an item just not selling. Also, treating people poorly is simply a great way to get them to not use this site and instead, go somewhere else.

Are you saying the 250k member subreddit had nothing to do with it? Or the fact that the mods deleted every reference about it and or told people it wasn’t legit?

Do you honestly think it’s just because thread crapping wasnt allowed? Your answer to this will tell me a lot about your intelligence.

you wouldn’t even know. Their moat was their user base and power sellers sticking with them. How does the feature set and search compare to here? Their biggest advantage was 14 years of member loyalty.
