Unregistered bullet buttons (registry now closed) are themselves assault weapon features now, they are NOT legal on featureless builds.

Per subdivision (b) of Penal Code § 30900:

b) (1) Any person who, from January 1, 2001, to December 31, 2016, inclusive, lawfully possessed an assault weapon that does not have a fixed magazine, as defined in Section 30515, including those weapons with an ammunition feeding device that can be readily removed from the firearm with the use of a tool, shall register the firearm before July 1, 2018, but not before the effective date of the regulations adopted pursuant to paragraph (5), with the department pursuant to those procedures that the department may establish by regulation pursuant to paragraph (5).

You realize that the arguement you are making there makes all featureless rifles assault weapons right?
A standard mag release allows the ammunition device to be readily removed with (or without) the use of tool.

what do i need to do to make it featureless.

remove the flash hider, fix the stock and wrap the pistol grip?

Yes to all three. You can buy a Strike Industries Stock Stop as an easy non-permanent solution to “fix” the stock in place, or buy a fixed stock. You can replace the flash hider with a muzzle brake.

I went the AR Maglock “fixed” mag route to keep the “evil” features.

Wow fellas and maybe ladies... I really do appreciate the points. after reading all your comments and suggestions I think the juggernaut hellfire kit looks to be the best option for me.

The best fixed magazine setup is the Juggernaught takedown pin (NOT the full kit) combined with the Hogue Freedom Fighter magazine lock.
The Juggernaught full kit eliminates the bolt catch to use the bolt catch location for the juggernaught magazine lock which changes the functionality of the rifle.
Using the Hogue magazine lock lets you keep the original bolt catch and retain the full functionality of the controls.
I do the required drilling and tapping for the Hogue freedom fighter while you wait if you make a appointment and come over to my workshop.

You can bring the rifle back disassembled.
The new law specifically states that an AR with the top and bottom halves separated is not an assault weapon.

Once you separate the halves, you can bring it back and then change out whatever parts are required for it not to be an assault weapon and then you can put it back together so it's not an assault weapon.
