New to Regular Cleaning, Is This Kit Solid?

Started hitting the range more regularly with my Zastava M70 and Glock 17, so I put together a cleaning kit. Is this a solid setup for keeping both guns running long-term?

Solvents & Lubricants:
  • Hoppe's No. 9: bore cleaner only, to break down carbon
  • Ballistol (Aerosol): all-purpose cleaner and protectant for everything else
  • Lucas Extreme Duty Gun Oil: dedicated lubricant for high-friction metal contact points on both guns

Tools:
  • Bore Snakes (9mm and 7.62mm): fastest way to clean the barrel
  • Nylon Brush Set: scrubbing carbon off bolts and gas pistons
  • Brass/Nylon Picks: getting carbon out of tight corners (for deep cleaning once in a while)
  • Microfiber Cloths
  • Cotton Swabs: breech face, extractor cutout, and other tight recesses

I've seen people say it doesn't matter what products you use as long as you clean and lubricate consistently. Is that actually true, or does product choice matter?

depends on the gun, a Glock? you can basically just wipe carbon off and lube every 1-2k rounds. Rifle barrels can do weird stuff if you get a carbon ring at the chamber but a Zastava probably has pretty loose tolerances so it probably doesn't matter that much. I would choose real bore brushes rather than a bore snake though, theyre cheap and work much better than a bore snake. You can actually clean the bore vs lightly touching it. I prefer Bore Tech eliminator for barrels it won't stink up your house and get you high like No 9. It is a carbon and copper solvent so you can use it on other stuff in addition to the bore,like the parts of the gas gun that get carbon build up.
 
AK47 has a lot of open contact surfaces so you may want to look into Tetra Gun Grease. Solvent isn't something you need to use that often but really important if you want to go from lead to lead-free ammo.
Bore snakes are fine for a minimum but you should really invest in at least one good cleaning rod and proper bronze brushes and jags.
 
I clean my firearms with oil and cleaning patches. I never malfunction. I can't believe people spend hundreds on cleaning products
 
Yeah I think you're fine with that stuff. I also use bore snakes for quick cleaning but I have a rod for my rifles too. I prefer to get a large cheap bag of patches and use hoppe's cleaners no need to break the bank. I do put more effort into my precision rifle cleaning than say pistols though so the weapon does play a roll.
 
I use CLP Breakfree to clean it is awesome at dissolving powder. You should get stainless cleaning rods one for the rifle and one for the pistol. The aluminum multi-piece ones a junk and the fiberglass ones bend. The brass tips are better than the plastic ones which break. I have used the Lucas gun oil that you list in you post and it seems to be a cross between an oil and a grease. It should be fine for the rifle but I would get a lighter oil for the pistol.
 
The items in your current kit are good to go. You can use Ballistol as a clip for basic cleaning, lube and protection or just use it for cleaning and the Lucas fur lubing. That's what I do. I also use only Ballistol for protection, because it's non toxic and I carry appendix so the weapon touches my skin. If rather have Ballistol get on my skin during carry than Lucas.

For your annual deep cleaning, you can use your Hoppes, but I suggest a cleaning rod, bronze brush and patches for that.

The cleaning rods were giving me a headache tbhs, that’s why I had bore snakes.

Like every material rod had downsides. Stainless steel could potentially mess up bore, even tho bore is made of harder steel. Brass has pores which allows for particle/debris buildup, that can mess up bore. I forgot what issues aluminum had. Carbon fiber crack and bend. All single piece of course.

What lighter oil do you recommend for the pistol?

I use Gunslick Pro Ultra-Lube. I think it is discontinued but there are still a few place you can find it on line.
