Newbe Question about Optics

Hi guys, Absolutely no experience with optics on my firearms. All my guns are stock.
Over the weekend I just couldn't wait anymore and ordered the Staccato HD P4 directly from Staccato. (lead time 3 to 4 months)
I absolutely want to add an optic to this one but no idea which manufacture or model to consider.
Are there any standards or "Can't go wrong with" suggestions you can help me out with? I know opinions can sometimes be all over the place on this subject but are there any optics out the that meet this standard that I should consider? Staccato has a bunch they offer (but can't legally install due to Cali laws) and I really don't just wanna pick one random...that would be a dumb move, I know

Trijicon is like the gold standard. Rmr is super durable, sro has a huge window and small frame. They are usually only red dots with varying (moa) size.

Aimpoint is also highly regarded and built (and look) like tanks. Also usually only a red dot.

Eotech is pretty highly regarded as well, but I only hear about their bigger dots that are for a full picatinny rail.

Holosun is "cheap Chinesium" but has been coming around in terms of acceptance and supposedly quality. They have all kinds of red, green, dot, circle, combination of them.

If you're not going into combat (or don't usually drop your guns) then you likely don't need a bulletproof (and thus expensive) sight. Also almost every sight has a proprietary footprint so you either need to mill your slide (or buy an optics ready one) to the specific sight you want, or use adapter plates if available for your conversion. You might also consider co-witnessing which then you'll need appropriate height iron sights for the height of your dot and any adapter plates.

Another consideration could be open vs enclosed emitter. An open emitter could have the light obscured by any debris that gets in between the light and the glass (lint, rain). An enclosed emitter has the light inside the housing and cannot be obscured. Enclosed emitters are also usually bulkier than their open counterparts.

Someone posted a chart a couple weeks ago comparing dots. He listed window size and footprint, as all as other details. Its a useful resource.

Fwiw I have all the above mentioned sights except eotech. I usually buy the fancy stuff used here or on gafs.

I started with a Burris FastFire III and then went to the Holosun 507C X2 ACSS Vulcan Red Dot on all my carry pistols. I found the cheat sheets on www.freedomgorilla.com very helpful in comparing all the different optics out there.

Any optics that you know of that has a similar rounded housing like this but for rmsc? Every rmsc I see are square shaped.

For the staccato p4 I would recommend the Trijicon Rmr hd

+1 vote for Holosun - yes, they get a lot of flack for being "Chineseinum", but I run Holosuns on several of my handguns for years now and none have given me any issues. They also have a decent warranty program (lifetime for glass/housing, 10 years for the emitter) and I've heard nothing but good things from people who actually warrantied their optic.

If you plan on carrying the P4, I would recommend getting a closed emitter optic; there's more and more of them being released nowadays and they come in all sorts of price points. As someone who's had several several open emitters; I've gotten tired of cleaning out the dust/lint in my open emitters and are slowly transitioning all my open emitters to closed emitter optics. Just my .02...

I like the Trijicon SRO but it only comes in red. My preferred optic is the HoloSun 507 Comp (RMR footprint) in green, multiple reticle choices.

Trijicon SRO, Sig Romeo 3 Max or C-more RST2 V5. Trijicon and Sig are the most expensive or you can get the C-more which is a very reliable optic and great for competition and plinking. It's true competition dot but half the cost of Trijicon SRO and with a bigger window.

Don't fall for the gimmick multi-reticle optics you are paying more for garbage. You just need the dot.

Don't go cheap or you will end up buying more dots 2 or 3x I stead of just buying 1x and having something that lasts.

If price is no object, you can’t go wrong with a Trijicon RMR HD. That is the hottest gucci right now.

Else, go to your LGS and try all the optics with your own eyes. You may find your eyes perceive some dot sizes/colors/reticles better than others. Your individual corneas, vision, astigmatism perception may vary.
