With new laws, does private purchase of a stand alone barrel have to be done through ffl?

The purchase itself, no, but physical transfer to the buyer technically has to be done in-person at the FFL. In other words, you are welcome to buy the barrel itself from any retailer or private seller, as long as you take possession of the barrel through the FFL.

So that means would have to transfer the barrel into buyers name through ffl? The actual purchasing not required in store. But must legally take possession and go through background check like ammo or firearm? Does the barrel count for 3 in 30?
No background checks until July 2027. At this time the FFLs just have you sign an acknowledgement that they file away for who knows what the DOJ has planned.
