S&W M&P Issues

So I have heard repeated comments in gun stores and on forums about issues with the M&P Line. I have a Shield Plus, Shield X, Bodyguard 2.0 CC, and a M&P Compact and have thousands of rounds downrange between the four guns. No issues.

Can anyone speak to the issues - if there are any? I just am not seeing it.

Thanks

What did they say specifically ? I have over 10k rounds on several full size 2.0s and a shield plus and never had issues that weren't related to my own crappy reloads.

Their QC is kind of ass on their revolvers and some of their semi autos. Common issues you'll hear about on the s&w subreddits are:

BG2.0: misaligned sights, F-ed up guide rods from the factory, firing pin issues (this one is rare though), constant failure to return to battery / some guns that just refuse to run reliably without sending them to s&w to fix.

Shield Plus / Shield X have consistent issues with optics cuts that are slightly out of spec (more on this below).

Beyond that their semi autos are mostly fine. I hear the real horror stories about their revolvers though.

I have personally had 2 problems with S&W guns but none of them caused actual reliability issues:

1. M&P 2.0 Metal Compact: awful finish on the cerakote that looked like it was done at 5pm on a friday. Uneven spray and visible machining marks on the lower. Beyond that the mag release was sticky and i had to insert mags pretty hard to get them to seat. Not a good look for a $900 gun.

2. Shield Plus: my shield plus actually has one of the slightly out of spec optics pockets. What happens is that RMSc / K cut optics will either sit or they just slightly won't sit inside the recoil lugs. The fix for this is to simply get a roll pin mallet and lightly tap the top of the optic and it'll sit.

The way I look at S&W is that it's kind of a roll of the dice on some of their guns (particularly the BG2.0). But if you get a good one it shouldn't really give you any issues.

Most of what I heard dealt with accuracy issues.
Oh that's a lore thing among some competition shooters. Supposedly some shooters have problems with random flyers on the factory barrel specifically for the M&P 2.0s. The fix is to get the fitted barrel from APEX and the apex trigger. I doubt most people shoot well enough to actually need to do this though.

There's also the BG2.0 issue that some of them come with misaligned iron sights from the factory.

Yeah ask those people to show their groups, that's definitely been a thing that people say but I've had 3 apex barrels as well as oem M&P barrels and they weren't noticeably different. I sold all the Apex barrels and still shoot an M&P in matches every once in a while with an OEM barrel they are fine. It's only something to worry about if you experience it yourself.

I've not had any issues with the M&P 2.0 compact.

I'm currently diagnosing some failure to feed issues I ran into today with a Frankenstein'd 4" slide on the Shield Plus, so it'd be unfair of me to say it's a QC issue. I'm thinking it might have something to do with how damned tight the mags are when run new at 10+1.

My Shield plus, no issues. Irons only though.

My 10mm, I bought the comp slide and it was binding somehow, not sure specifically what was going on. S&W needed to replace the firing pin. No issues after.

Let me guess: You didnt put aftermarket parts in yours.
That's why they work great.

People that change out several important parts to aftermarket parts are the main source of complaints of problems with most brands of guns.
