Shield plus as ccw for lefty

The safety is a deal breaker but you’re considering a Canik and asking about a Glock…neither of which have a safety. Just get the shield plus and carry it my guy.

All honesty though the controls on the Canik are very lefty friendly, I used to shoot my Canik tti combat in matches till I decided to sell it and get a HD3.6 for ccw. But my shield plus carry comp is also on my permit and I carry it often cause it disappears under a shirt more easily than the thick staccato.

My only/main concern with the safety is to qualify during live fire. I've read some/ alot of IA's make you qualify with all safety features that are oem on the pistol. So I was wondering mostly if there is a work around for guns with safeties that are only for righties to qualify as a lefty. Or just practice, or if it's not practical.

even if you’re going to carry with it off you need to be in the habit of sweeping it off on the draw. No telling if it got bumped on during the day. Really bad habit to just assume the safety is off and squeeze the trigger hoping it is.

Don’t know how they’d make you manipulate that safety other than using your right thumb during presentation. Best thing to do is contact t your IA and ask.

My IA just wanted me to put 7rnds center mass
in a FBI QIT-03 target - didn’t even care about touching the safety on either of my guns.

I leave the safety off on my shield plus when I’m carrying cause without it on, it’s just another striker fired pistol.

I manipulate the safety on the staccato cause my thumb rests on the right safety ledge, and I grew up using my dads series 70 1911.

An excellent point I never considered for left hand carry, with the Shield safety switch going to be on the outside. For right hand carry, the switch will be against your soft flesh, which is more likely to tear you up before you even manage to flip that stiff switch. With the switch on the outside during carry, it's unlikely however not impossible to accidentally hit that switch on/off.

I’m a southpaw and I carry my Shield Plus in an appendix holster with the safety off. Like the other postings, it’s just another striker pistol and the safety isn’t an issue for me. When I get home and before i pull the holster with Shield from my person, safety goes on and then I place everything into my safe. Training makes everything 2nd nature.

Where are you? I see you have a classified ad in Placer County, if that's the case I wouldn't even worry about it. The Placer course of fire is super easy and even if you had to put the safety on and turn it off as part of it which I'm fairly certain you don't, you have plenty of time during the test. It's not like they are expecting you to do a 2 second bill drill from concealment the live fire test is a joke. I'm in Sac county and my instructor actually let us do a harder test just because the required one is such a waste of time. https://www.placer.ca.gov/11143/Fre...755b93cec7a0807ffdb42ad37511f789e09a8092ee783

I'm in garden valley eldorado county. That listing is greater placerville area. I've heard eldo county is pretty lenient but I just want to be prepared and safe.

yeah el dorado is the same story, it's a very easy course of fire. I would just go with whatever gun you like shooting the best. I personally think the Shield Plus is the best in that size class of the sub compacts but everyone likes different stuff. You could bump up to the 4" compact size and go with the M&P compact, the safeties on that have the opposite issue in that they are in the way but they are Ambi. But on my bigger M&Ps (not sheild) I just take the thumb safeties out. I have big hands, maybe they won't be in your way. Either way the El dorado course of fire doesn't say anything about activating the safeties so I don't think you need to worry about it for the qualification.

Neither placer nor Sacramento county even require holster draw or to have a holster for the CCW qual and it’s pretty easy. I passed with flying colors after not shooting for like 6 years lol. And they definitely aren’t watching to see your sweep or whatever there’s like 20 people shooting at the same time

Oh perfect. Gun range on watt has VP9K for $849. Sucks you missed the rebate but it is what it is

What distance and grouping is expected?

I think you just gotta hit the target, I think the farthest shot was 10 yards? lol. I mean it was easier than my Navy qual where most people have to learn to shoot and qual for the first time in one day. I think I could pass that qual with no iron sights or red dot

There was a woman in my class that didn't know how to rack the slide or clear a malfunction and she passed fine. It is very easy
