One of the things that lured me to consider a 2011 is when I saw someone rack the damn gun with one hand and shooting right after he won hand racked the gun . It was an impressive move so that that’s why even considering a 2011 dumb excuse but it looks damn cool.

Well, if it’s easy to charge one handed it stands to reason it’s probably easy to knock it out of battery pretty easily too huh? I think my point is with regard to the 2011, if you’re just gonna compete with it it’s probably pretty great.

All jokes aside, the 2011 is just the latest step in the evolution of the 1911 platform—a design lineage that dates all the way back to the Model 1900. At this point, the 1911 has become something of an "open-source" design. Tweaking, tuning, and modifying it to suit individual preferences isn’t blasphemy—it’s tradition. That’s probably why it's still the go-to platform for the "Open" division in competitive shooting.

As for 2011s in 9mm, keep in mind you're still limited to 10-round magazines in many jurisdictions. And a single-stack 10-round 9mm mag fits pretty flush in a full-size 1911. So unless you’re running in divisions where higher capacity is allowed, there’s not a lot of practical incentive to spend thousands more on a double-stack 2011—especially when you're blocking mags down to 10 rounds anyway.

I'm sure that is a very fine firearm, but one of these days I'm going to find a nice used Dan Wesson stainless CBOB Commander.

After having time to really reflect on them though. They're cool guns but what do they offer that I can't already get with a simple 9mm glock (or something similar)? I kind of see them like high end sports cars at this point. Fun to take out on a nice day, but not really practical day to day. Essentially, they're just expensive range toys or gamer guns for competitions. For that reason, even if I could buy one, I'm not sure I ever would anymore. There's too many other cool guns I'd rather try first.

My experience is somewhat similar. I own a Staccato CS, and you'd be amazed at how accurate it is (2" 10-shot groups hand held at 10 yards), but then you have the safety to worry about, which I don't have with my G19 (EDC). I can't shoot that well with my G19, but good enough for when the SHTF.

The 2011 format is kind of the best of both worlds, the capacity of a 9mm and the accuracy of the 1911's single action trigger. I'm not sure they are worth the money unless you're like me and you just don't want to take the same gun to the range every week.
