The Toughest Looking Shadow Systems / Glock 19 | Tidbits & Range Test / Review

Recently snagged a Shadow Systems and while taking a closer look to see which generation(s) the DR920P consists of it appears to be a mish mash of 3, 4, & 5! On top of that it's kind of a hybrid of a 19, 17 & 34.

I hadn't really paid much attention to them until our genius overlords banned them along with Glocks, so pardon me if none of this info is new to you.

With the SS OEM Slide:
Slide? 19 length
Barrel? 17 length
Slide overall length with Comp? 34

Gen 3
-Most of the slide internals
-Frame 3 pin
-Slide Catch/Release
-Slide Internals (other than extractor plunger setup)
Gen 4
-Slide designed for Dual RSA, although is uses a Gen 3 style hybrid with single spring and Gen 4 sized rear. Makes me wonder why they didn't just use a dual RSA.
-Ejector looks identical to the 47021 (Gen 4)
-Mag catch/release
Gen 5
-Locking block is from the 19 like Gen 5 17/34 etc.
-Slide Takedown Lever (single spring, not the long spring tab)

This meant I could slap my Gen 5 MOS slide along with the Radian on there for more of a flush fit vs. the factory comp which makes is as long as a 34.

Shadow Systems + Glock 19 Hybrid: Compatibility Test & Range Results

I wanted to see if a Glock 19 Gen5 slide would fit and run reliably on a Shadow Systems DR920P frame, and the short answer is yes, perfectly.

The reason it works: Shadow Systems uses Glock 19 locking block spacing in their design, even though the DR920P is roughly Glock 17-sized. That means the G19 slide locks up cleanly and functions like factory.

Here’s what I found after a 200+ round range test:

Build: G19 Gen5 slide + Shadow Systems DR920P frame Compatibility: drop-in fit, no mods required Ammo mix: reloads, factory FMJ, and hollow points

Reliability: zero malfunctions in 200+ rounds Recoil: slightly snappier likely due to slide weight, but still very controllable

Feel: heavier up top, more like a standard Glock 19

Total rounds through gun: 500+ with both slide setups, no issues

Final Takeaway: If you’ve ever wanted to run a Glock slide on a Shadow Systems frame, it works, and it works well. Reliable, accurate, and fun. Just another example of Shadow Systems’ smart compatibility design.

The Gen 3 34 slide should not fit onto the DR920P because the lugs of the barrel are different.
