Thoughts on Wilson Combat Bulwark?

Yeah wish it didn’t have a grip safety, but came instead with a manual safety option. I assume it’s SAO? Would be kinda cool to have a DA/SA with internal hammer and a decocker
 
That grip safety might be the only thing holding it back from success, but I'm certain once they see the amount of complaints maybe the next iteration they'll remove it for something else. But I like this experiment there trying hopefully they have better success than DD with there H9.
 
Wow, that’s the ugliest grip safety I’ve seen. I don’t mind having a grip safety, but that looks uncomfortable.
 
Interesting design for sure, glad it's a chassis system as that really should be the go to from now on. That being said, price is too high for what it is, and why would they choose to make it look like a Glock? I don't see them selling that well. Almost $2k for what is essentially an aluminum framed Glock with a better trigger? I think this is a good step to a platform that could grow into something really awesome, but it is a first step, and from a company that I'm not sure can/will grow it into it's full potential.
 
If this takes off enough, I sense an “aftermarket short travel grip safety” coming along.

Cool to see them taking a stab at producing something outside of just 1911 and 1911-adjacent offerings though. AFAIK they do have things that are not 1911s, but they modify and not produce those.

Just to the Glock look part, I think it’s because of compatibility. Their literature explicitly mentions broad cross-compatibility with existing Glock-style holsters. I imagine it has to be relatively close looking to a Glock, by way of having to be relatively closely shaped like one.

I’m no expert, to be fair, but my favorite AR15 is the Wilson Combat Protector Carbine. It’s not my most expensive, but I think it’s the one I would have the hardest time parting with. It’s light, really accurate, trouble free, and the fit-and-finish is superb.

That's my concern, I don't see it taking off due to the price. Realistically, most people don't go super in depth on research into every gun. They're gonna see a picture of it, think it's a $2000 Glock, and move on. I think it's honestly just too expensive to really take off, and for the aftermarket to start supporting a new platform, it needs to sell really well. All the other chassis pistols on the market are sub $1k, and with the aftermarket support many of them have, you could realistically turn them into something that performs the same as this for half the cost, and using a more proven/established platform.

You’re right - sorry my brain was meaning in the realm of pistols. I actually have a Wilson 18” barrel and bolt carrier group, you’d think I’d know or say better, haha.


Their video mentions “hard use service pistol” at the start. Generic language, I know, but maybe they’ll be targeting contracts.

Idk, the video makes it sound like they are marketing this as a service pistol. And yes, it is their least expensive, but they also said it is an entirely machine made production gun, there is no hand fitting that goes into these. With that in mind especially, that price is insane. Other guns in that price range are things like a TRP, Dan Wessons 1911s, and the Platypus, all of which have hand fitting done and will certainly yield better performance. They are also touting this as the "safest pistol ever", but it was a strange choice to have both a grip safety and trigger safety, but no option for a thumb safety.

ETA: Also it uses their proprietary X9 mags, which was not the best choice.

The street price will be 1500 1600 probably. Still pricey but in the world of Wilson not so much

No, they were trying to make a duty pistol. So if you compare it to all the other popular duty pistols like M&P, Echelon, Glock, Sig, Shadow Systems, FN, ect, then it's 2x-3x the price those. Either way, it seems like a very niche gun that isn't going to get any aftermarket support. For a new handgun to do well, it needs affordable mags, good aftermarket support, and/or to do something better or way different from other options. This has none of the above. Now if that new Rideout Dragon pistol could get the price down a bit more as they sell more, THAT is a game changer of a pistol that I could see dominating the handgun market.
