Answered Trending/hot posts view?

One thing I do enjoy from reddit is finding threads/posts that have a lot of recent traction/replies.

On the main home page I think currently, there's only a "Latest posts" section at the top, do you think a "Trending Posts" toggle or something that would show threads that have a lot of momentum that day to show users what are some currently active conversations?

A naive/high level design for a thread's "trending score" could be:
1. Requires at least 5 posts on the thread on the current day to be considered "trending" (or some arbitrary number so that new posts don't automatically become top trending)
2. Score could be something like a decaying function where the sum of likes/comments is multiplied by a decaying factor?

And maybe each thread could have a "trending score" that gets recalculated with every new post on the thread?

It's there but the algo isn't as good. We keep latest because its the most active typically. I've bumped the trending content in the side bar.. If you're looking at mobile it'll be just under the users online.

I don't put it on the main section as not to duplicate the same topics.

I changed the main page format a bit to separate things a little more to better organize it.
