Feedback Venturing into the 2011 space!

Hi guys. New to the forum, but longtime calguns member. Recently decided to checkout the 2011 platform. Does anyone have any recommendations for a great budget friendly option? I will be hitting the range soon and testing out some of the main contenders.

Have seen that you can modify a prodigy pretty easily, but that adds up quickly. Might just make more sense to start off with something better.

Have been looking at:
Prodigy, Platypus, Sig GT4, Staccato CS, HD P4

Thinking of picking one up for my birthday and trying to stay under $3.5k. Would appreciate any input or direction!

I hear pretty good things about the Platypus. Local range officers relate the Staccato suffers more malfunctions than maybe it should.

Platypus Comp punches way above it's price point. Granted the amount of money spent in total after optic, light, holster, and what not is about the same price as an XC from a free state, I will gladly say it's worth every penny.

Through 2A Zone in Riverside I ordered 2 tone Cerakote, custom serial #, and comp model came out to 35xx OTD after all taxes, fees, and BS. I will never sell it

That is the direction I have been leaning towards! Will be stopping by their new store to check them out.

I also waited exactly 2 months for mine, if you don't want to wait they usually have all black comp models in both Glock/Sig mags with RMR cuts. Price tag was 2800 last I was there

For a range toy I feel like the platypus comp would be the way to go. Build it how you want it and it’s about $3300 OTD with 2A Zone.

Personally I’m waiting for a compact carry friendly version of the platypus comp. 4” overall barrel and G19 mag

Can’t go wrong with prodigy or platypus. How about fusion xp pro comp and ported.. sse @ 2a… other that I would continue to save.

I’ve never shot a platypus but have two prodigy’s and they run awesome.
If you want to spice them up put a EGW ignition kit with a red dirt trigger and it can be really good.

The CS is really meant as a carry gun, so keep that in mind. The HD P4 is also more of a duty/HD gun, but can be shot in competition or as a general range gun as well, if you’d like. I’d avoid series 80 stuff if given the choice as it’s not going to have as nice of a trigger as the series 70 stuff.

Of the options listed, probably a comped platypus. Maybe wait and see what staccato releases near the end of the month, might be the full size comped model and it might hit the roster shortly thereafter like the C4X and other guns did.

Atlas is the way to go. Everyone I know who has ventured into the 2011 realm eventually ends up with an Atlas. You will start thinking you can get a budget gun and “be happy” with it but you’ll eventually find someone with an Atlas, they’ll let you shoot it and you’ll immediately know what you’ve been missing.

I agree with this but OP did state a budget of $3.5k. Personally, i would try to find a used Stacatto P. Build quality will surpass the Platypus or Prodigy.

Jacob Gray Hex is also a good option. There is a new one listed on the marketplace at your price point.

Hence the key word, “save.” Save save save. I’ve never regretted any of the Atlas pistols I’ve purchased. IMO, if you are not exempt, they are the best deal for a 2011. Staccatos in the private market are way overpriced in CA. For another $1,500-2k you can land a used Atlas. Or buy one new from 2AZone without off roster extortion fees.

My second 2011 was an Atlas Erebus. It ruined every other pistol. It made me realize I had just been wasting time with all the other pistols.

It would have to be a pretty large something relative to their budget to sell to make up the difference. Probably in the realm of needing to find a good $5.5k-$6k used before budgeting for the optic and buying new from an FFL via SSE is going to increase the required budget significantly given the ~ 18.75% additional cost in taxes.

I love Atlas, I've owned every single Atlas ever made of the V2s (including the limited edition drops and the Chaos V2/Ares), several V1s, Team Atlas customs, handled all the V3s, etc., but given this is OP's first 2011, I don't think it's a good idea to dive head first into a new platform without knowing what you're getting into, whether you'll enjoy it or the pros outweigh the cons for their use case or their unformed expectations.

RCD is very impressive and very much Atlas like - heavy on the CNC usage with minimal hand fitment nowadays; builders rather than true gunsmiths. Not a knock in any way as the level of precision required to churn out parts that are closer to drop in and require less fitment is great and a boost to overall QC/consistency, but they're not going to compare to something from Don, Pat, Eddie, Brandon, etc. and you won't have to pay for that minor difference someone new to the platform may not even be able to appreciate.
