MythBusters tested this. Not much. Also had a friend whose house burned down with lots ammo in it due to some electrical issue in the home. Lots of popping but that was about it. Thanks for this video. Lots good info.

There is a hell of a difference between the mass of a bullet and the mass of a baseball. If you are hit by a bullet going
85 miles per hour, it’s merely annoying. If you are hit by a baseball going the same speed, it’s going to really hurt. Maybe even kill you.

Makes sense as the casing weighs less and the shape of it captures more of the explosive force.

Yes ammo exposed to fire can go off however a bullet needs the pressure gained in a barrel to get velocity. Ammo that’s not in a gun will certainly pop and the actual projectile can move with some force but it’s not enough to penetrate the metal ammo can and a steel safe.

The only test I found surprising was the drop test, 2 rounds of .357SIG ignited.
