what type of vice is best?

Yet another baller vise, haha!!

Given that a quality US made vise is well over the cost of something you'll get at Harbor Freight, Lowes, or Home Depot, the Orange Vise isn't too extravagant in the grand scheme of things.

That being said, most people can get by with the low cost $200 vises +/- from the box retailers.

But if you use a vise a lot, you'll appreciate something that is machined well.

To answer to OP question . Guns are the best vice . Drinking hurts your liver . Smoking hurts your lungs . Guns only hurt your wallet .

I get along great with $200 used USA made Wilton Bullet vises.
I don't think I ever paid $200 though as I have only bought them for $100, $120 and $150.
This is the one I recommend:https://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/95116133
