I think you had to screen shot your account/itrader before CGN did the original server move. Was it July or August? Can't remember. I did not either, oh well.

This place is a mix of the two plus from my own work experience. The Reddit sub was always asking about CGN and one day based on some circumstances, I had some time to work on it.

The Reddit community helped me with all the specs for the site. They told me what they wanted based on what was always missing from CGN since its tech from 2010’s. Before 2024, no real software upgrades since 2010-2012, not sure exactly when.

I’ve never been a part of GAFS, but we do incorporate some of their ruleset, same with CGN. I personally had lost 20+ rating going back since 2012. After building the site, I was asked quite often if I could import iTrader. This was the only method I could think of, where I could use account age and then iTrader screenshot came later. It created a way to monetize and also recognize reputation from our non-existent feedback system at the time to help seed new users.

If you noticed, I’ve worked in securing systems for a long time. I’ve done work for various companies from govt to crypto to Ecom. Reputation systems are beneficial to websites for a number of reasons. This is another layer and actually something I’ll write about in the member section later. Anyways, through this, the paid badge system was created and also what helped to fund the site since there was nothing really to support in the early days of the site. I paid everything out of pocket and was losing money for the first 7 of 9 months. Even now, it helps to fund different software upgrades and features for free members here including you.

As mentioned, we’ll be sponsoring more so most of what we make will be reinvested in the site to help fund or spread the word.

I’d like to think as a member of both sites I’m able to pull from my experiences and most importantly listen to people. There’s obvious lines I draw, and if you notice there’s a contingent at CGN, that doesn’t like the way I do things. In effect, not all Redditors and CGN don’t like certain aspects here. With that being the case, it’s a middle ground for people to connect because there’s compromise. Doesn’t always work, and I know some people won’t like what I do, and it’s ok. CAguns.net is one option to choose from and I hope people like it and continue to help build it.

I’ll end with, I don’t want to speak poorly of CGN. It was a good resource for decades. It’s up and running and I hope people can see the difference between the two sites. To me, it should be obvious.

With all the Brass and gun sales I did over there
All gone now . Life got too busy and didn't go to the old forum enough

I give options.. there’s nothing to say you’re using someone else’s identity though. That’s the verification part. Badge just certifies that you’ve been checked out so you don’t have to do it over and over. Of course once you build a reputation then that works too. The other part is supporting the site if you’re selling stuff.

We have a lot of features we offer for free and hope people that sell chip in to help the site and keep it free for others. It’s more sustainable that way. It’s not required but it is appreciated

Ive already bought and sold a few items here. Didnt have any issues. Just use common sense. I think the waxing poetic about losing CGN iTrader is a little much. I didnt feel like anyone I dealt with was worried about me. And I didnt feel worried about them. The mods are way more tech savvy than CGN and actually know what they are doing. I think this site is a lot more secure than CGN.

Definitely one of the best things you can do when signing up is to replicate your screen name from Cal guns. Those of us that spend most of our lives on that site recognize each other after many years of being in the forms and marketplace. I definitely recognize CDOT Bronson and eat dirt from the previous website. Don't know if I ever did any transactions with either of them since I had a couple hundred and I can't remember 98% of the people that I dealt with unless I was able to refer back to the old website

My identity can't be known via username, as I don't really use the same across platforms. But you can ask SISKIN and BUGSY714(maybe not on this forum) to confirm that I went to Berdoo Canyon with them to shoot. Or check graybeards outdoors or AK forum as I still have my Cheapbloke username there.
