PPT experience ruined it for me
Pros
  • Friendly clerks if not the owner
  • Buckshot is ok to shoot
Cons
  • PPT is ridiculous with the $100/week storage fee
  • PPT needs to wait until after all other customers
I understand FFL doesn't make money with PPT but it's the same customer base and if you piss off your customer base, you ended up losing more business. Not only do they require you to wait until all other people at the counter is taken care of, but also they require you to pick up the firearm right at the 10 day mark even if it's holiday such as Thanksgiving or Christmas.

The location is good for people living in the peninsula and the indoor range does allow you to shoot buckshots which is difficult to do in many ranges.

However, at least from personal experience, I had very elevated lead after going there so often. My lead level halved after I stopped going there.

The people there are friendly however. They are not bad people and are just following the store policy. The owner/manager can however be a little grumpy.

Reeds Shop
Pros
  • Walk-in PPT
  • Good selection of other goodies and guns
Cons
  • PPT Pickup
Unfortunately I have had to go here 2 times for a PPT. The first time ( I just didn't know) and the 2nd time was for a holy grail gun that I needed to get and didn't care about the logistics. Anyways, I told them the first time that I'm coming from 3 hours away and they told me they dont care and if I don't pickup the gun within 24 hours of the time window, its a per day fee. I understand the principle but 2-3 days should be given to be reasonable. Staff there probably deals with idiots 24/7 since its the bay area and they have a shooting range, so I understand why staff are not so nice. I had a couple decent workers I dealt with but noticed the others.

They have a good selection of guns and other stuff, so that is great!
If you have to do a PPT, dont go here. If you want to buy a gun, check with them in that area because they have a decent amount as well as consignment.
The place gets the job done, so it is what it is- I appreciate their time.

Should have arrived with donuts or a 6-pack of something as a gift. Grease those rails...

It's not per day. It's $100/week even if you miss by 1 day.

Had an absolutely asstastic experience here back in the fall. Was ppting a handgun that came with factory 10 round magazines. Guy helping me was helpful, another employee came over and decided that he didn't like how big the magazines looked, and decided to force an 11th round in by mortaring it in with a maglula on the counter and trying to decline the ppt. Had to tell him to go get the manager and had to have a long ass discussion about customer service and whether his employee attempting to do illegal things to my property was something I wanted to deal with in the future. Also their pickup policies are laughably draconian.

This is just a review of their ffl, their range is a whole other issue. Since target masters closed they've absorbed all of the rental crowd, and quite frankly any weekend there is a 💩show. Afternoons on the weekdays aren't bad, but the range is beat up and outdated, and the owners just don't care because they're a monopoly

Range is good
Pros
  • Range is clean, ventilated, lit and well maintianed
Cons
  • Staff are hit and miss
Their inddor range is very good. If you going during the week there is no time limit. Their rental case is pretty well stocked and they give you a credit if you buy a gun that you have rented. Prices for firearm sales are pretty good. Staff vary greatly, some knoweldeagle and helpful, some full of the dreaded "gun store guy" attitude and unreliable info.

I posted an update in the thread about a very positive experience with a PPT today. Maybe I should have given these guys 5 stars insteaad of 4!
Pros
  • Walk-In PPTs, no exorbitant fees.
  • They have a "DOJ compliance" staff member on site that knows the laws/rules
Cons
  • Storage fees after 11th day for PPTs not picked up
  • PPTs are low priority - they will take new gun buyers/other buyers before PPTs
FFL with decent rifle and handgun selections.

Lots of foot traffic as they also have one of the only indoor range left in the Bay Area. Their indoor range features 20 lanes, 25 yards each. Decent selection on rental firearms as well. They also offer various trainings every month.

Open 7 days a week from 10am to 8pm.

Facilitated a few PPTs here, no additional fees, but has a strict policy that buyer must pick up PPT firearm on 10th or 11th day. After the 11th day, there is a storage fee incurred for each day the firearm is not picked up. Odd policy, but understandable for a shop open 7 days a week that openly accepts PPTs.
