The range ain't much, but it'll work
Pros
  • Hours and location, easy to get to during the work week
  • Solid selection of firearms and accessories for sale
  • Rental firearms
Cons
  • Ventilation / HVAC seems to be poor in the range
  • Old lanes and rails
  • Range safety is a little questionable
  • Extremely busy on the weekends
  • Cleanliness
Weekdays are less busy but weekends are crowded. I waited around 30 min to get a lane.

Fill out a waiver, and if renting, demonstrate how to operate the firearm. No eyes/ears rentals! Bring your own or purchase theirs.

The range works. Distance markers on the walls. Booths have a light, a shelf, and slot for targets (nice!). The clamps for targets are awkward and require min18 inch width targets.

Their HVAC system is questionable, smells worse than other indoor ranges I've gone to. Unclear if bathroom soap is d-lead.

3s per shot, but enforcement varies. No headshots bc target clips made of steel. No prob, flip your target upside down.

No RSO in the range, they watch thru window/camera. Feels sketchy considering all the new folks here who clearly need guidance but are handed a rental firearm.

I'd say Reed's is great for first timers who want easy access to a range, but for experienced folks, only go if it's the most convenient option.

Solid Place
Pros
  • Has Gun rentals
  • Lots of targets to choose from
  • Can Shoot buckshot/birdshot
  • Cubby holes for stuff
Cons
  • Little parking space
  • Close out line Can be Long
  • Limited ranges for long guns
I come here every now and then. It’s a gun store that has a range which can make getting in and out take time. I like to come here cause I can shoot buckshot and birdshot out of my shotgun so I’m not forced to buy slugs. I haven’t personally used any rentals they have but I see people use em a lot and they seem to like them.

Not as bad as I thought it would be, but still not good
Pros
  • It’s in the Bay Area
Cons
  • Not transparent with pricing
  • Pay after using range
  • Inconsistent application of rules
  • Inconsistent assigning of lanes
  • Range in very poor condition
I had expected Reed’s to be far worse than it was, but that doesn’t mean it was good.

You are not told how much or any rules when you lineup and go to pay.

Despite having my own system in my own needs the person I came with, and I were lumped together in the same lane.

Allegedly, “no head shots” and “no rapid fire” are their rules. However, I observed the range safety officer inconsistently apply these rules.

I saw him approach someone and tell them “no rapid fire,” yet literally in the adjacent lane he allowed someone to mag dump and rapid fire. Without a peep.

The facilities are frankly horrid. There are only distance indicators on the far left and far right and they’re not well painted or made easy to see.

The target carrier clips and system in general are in really poor shape very difficult to use and very rickety.

If this were a free state and we had more options, I would never go back to this place. It makes San Leandro look like a nice range.

Inconsistent service, lots of supplies, offers rental firearms
Pros
  • Provides rental handguns
  • Small selection of reloading supplies
  • Great location, close to San Jose
  • Consignment Sales, make sure to give it a peek
Cons
  • Range Safety is not very thorough
  • Range doesn't have distance markers
  • Staff Attitudes are a gamble
Reeds is a small store but has a little bit of everything. Store can be very busy so expect long wait times even for pickups.

Being located in the middle of Santa Clara and offering rental firearms means many beginners or first-time shooters will be visiting here. Every time I've been here they only had one RSO casually watching the two indoor ranges. They watch outside through a window; they have to enter double doors to perform any immediate action...not ideal for a place that services first-time shooters.

The indoor range target rails don't provide a distance to send targets to, it's just a momentary toggle that sends or retrieves the target.

Rental staff tends to hand you a gun and just walk off. They don't seem keen on answering any questions, lots of sighs and eye-rolls.

Sales staff can be helpful and ready to answer your questions, or belittle you for asking about anything. Just be ready for it.

Unfriendly staff, plenty of bays, gets the job done
Pros
  • many bays
  • lax on rapid fire
  • rentals
Cons
  • Staff Friendliness
  • Run down facility
Reeds is a convenient range in the city. The normal visit is without a wait so you can get in and shoot. The staff is definitely not trained to be friendly or with customer service in mind.

You are watched though a window while shooting by the staff. Yet you find holes all other the walls and ceiling. Not sure what to make of the staff observing you.

If you go to shoot and leave, its fine.

No thrills indoor range with great accessibility in the SF Bay Area region
Pros
  • Full service range from sales, training, rentals and repairs
  • Extensive inventory for any firearms related activity
  • Perfect location for anyone that works near Santa Clara
Cons
  • Range safety/enforcement can be improved
  • No on demand training
  • Not as many offerings for the range experience other than moving past a flat range
Reed's provides an all in one service for anything firearms related. You can go from knowing nothing to shooting your first shots at this range. The instructors that they host at this range have extensive experience with beginners.
Some cons:
1. Range safety/enforcement. There are times when I think there should be more of an employee presence on the range to enforce range rules, promote more safety, and deter bad behavior. In all the years I've been to this range, I've never felt like I needed a bulletproof vest so I do feel relatively safe on the range most days.
2. Their training isn't on demand. Having an on demand instructor would be a great boost to the range experience and can open up potential firearm sales.
3. Range experience. Wish they would offer steel target shooting to enhance the shooting experience.
