✅ PewView Pistol C-Clamp Grip – First Range Test Results

I decided to test the Pew View pistol C-Clamp grip to see if it actually helps with recoil and muzzle rise, or if it’s just another internet technique.

This was a true first attempt, no dry fire, no practice, straight to the range comparing:

Standard support-hand grip & Pew View’s choked-up "C-Clamp" grip

The results were immediate. The C-Clamp grip made it noticeably easier to:

-Keep the muzzle flatter
-Track sights/dot more consistently
-Shoot faster splits while staying on target

By choking the support hand up higher on the frame, you’re able to clamp down harder where it actually matters, while keeping the firing hand more relaxed for trigger control.

Comfort-wise, the transition felt natural almost immediately. Consistency improved as the session went on, and by the end the benefit was obvious.

Bottom line: This grip works, and it works right away. I’ll likely be switching to it permanently because there’s no real downside and recoil control is objectively better.

Anyone else tried this type of grip, or been curious about the effectiveness?

After coming to the same conclusion during a range trip a couple months ago, I also made the change to the pewview grip. It wasn’t difficult or awkward to do either and presentation remained perfect.

You might be surprised how many FUDDs chime in with "I've been doing my grip like this and it works for me, no need to try something that solves a non existent problem" or something of that nature... as if grip evolution doesn't make any sense 🤷‍♂️

I try to stay open-minded to anything that can provide a practical advantage. Even something as simple as a small change to a fundamental skill can make a noticeable difference. It may not work for everyone, but they won’t know if they remain closed off and aren’t willing to try it.

What is this specific flashlight set up?
Surefire, model?

It makes sense that it controls muzzle rise better. The light adds weight and a place to hold farther out like an angle grip.

On a shorter gun, kinda sketchy, lol!

The light in video OP posted is a SureFire X300. In the PewView video, I think he had a streamlight. I don’t recall the model, but I’m not sure how much that matters. Having more weight up front would probably be ideal, but I’m using a SF XC3 which is smaller than the X300 and the grip change has worked for me.

I’ve also been tucking the middle finger of my weak side hand under my strong side hand without thinking about it. Next range trip I’ll try it without the middle finger tuck to see if that makes any difference.

Thanks I’ll look into getting these for future long slide projects.

That grip somehow reminds me of a golf grip. 😄

I tried it once and my wrist didn't enjoy the sensation or angles required. Maybe I'll revisit it.

A video note: next time you do this you should film both grip styles and then show slow motion or a screen grab of each so that the viewer can see the difference in muzzle flip.

When I get real high on the grip the slide tends to not lock back on an empty mag due to me basically holding the slide lock down. Do you guys experience the same? I got one of those high extended slide locks for Glock but it almost immediately scratched my slide and I don't know how to feel about it.

Last night I watched Tenicor's video about grip pressures that uses a banana and an apple. Very helpful stuff. Considering the number of GMs out there that don't do the PewView grip, it seems like pressure is the most important thing?
The difference with the pewview grip is that more of your support hand is gripping the firearm frame and trigger guard instead of just holding on to your other hand for the most part, so even with the same grip pressure I gained more control. I'd imagine adding more pressure will likely yield even better results.
