So what is stopping Californians from traveling to Texas, purchasing a pistol, and traveling back? Seems like some of the plaintiffs were in AZ and NM which isn’t under the 5th circuit so is this ruling only applied to vendors? I know it’s new news but should be interesting to see what comes of it

It's a felony in CA so until it hits the supreme court and applies nationwide it's irrelevant here

there’d still be some hurdles for California residents unless SCOTUS expanded this.

It doesn’t invalidate the roster nor the 10 day waiting. So you could only buy rostered guns from out-of-state FFL’s and they’d have to somehow participate make you still wait 10 days before shipping or taking possession.

May be a felony, but I personally know 2 people who do this regularly. Not a risk I’d take, myself! But if I know two people, there must be thousands already doing this

Oh I'm sure, I believe you can still do a lot in arizona in a parking lot lol. the risk is probably low but if you did get caught it would be very very bad

Can’t you buy a gun face to face in another state then report with that CADOJ form and then you legally own it registered to you in CA

Because that law about the importation registration can’t be enforced if you self report? Or no

Not if you were a resident the whole time. That said I don't think anyone actually looks at those forms. But if you were involved in any kind of investigation it would be easy to see what happened. One scenario I wonder about is if you had to use a firearm in self defense in your own home. If your home is a crime scene they could search and catalog whatever they want as part of the investigation I believe, regardless of how legal your self defense was.

Sorry to tell you guys but I highly doubt we'll be able to bring off roster guns into california - nor any guns even if they are on the roster regardless of this ruling because california has its own law.

California Penal Code § 27585(a):

"27585. (a) Commencing January 1, 2015, a resident of this state shall not import into this state, bring into this state, or transport into this state, any firearm that the person purchased or otherwise obtained on or after January 1, 2015, from outside of this state unless the person first has that firearm delivered to a dealer in this state for delivery to that resident pursuant to the procedures set forth in Section 27540 and Article 1 (commencing with Section 26700) and Article 2 (commencing with Section 26800) of Chapter 2."
