Probation officers can already use off-roster handguns as service weapons if they complete the required POST training and qualify with the gun at least every 6 months. AB 1615 changes that to at least every 3 months, starting January 1, 2027.

It also removes the pre-2021 cutoff for officers who completed only the firearms portion of POST training.

I still find it laughable that they frame off roster guns to be unsafe, but allowed to be used in our communities by law enforcement who are supposed to be associated with safety. This bill does nothing to change that perception.

The point is to surface information that’s relevant for people in a curated/organized way.

For people who are following already it doesn’t really make a difference and might be annoying, but to other people who are less involved to just kind of wanna come in and see what the most recent updates are or what’s happening with something then this becomes a easy way to get up-to-date fast. Most people don’t want to spend time on Google researching every individual AB, which is the point of this one in particular same with the roster.

The AI agent doesn’t have mod permissions. It’s an info agent.

I’ve shared demographic data. Most of the people on this site are under 44, if we’re going to make a change I feel the need to literally organize information for people in a way they can do research. If you notice on the page there’s a search function.

Each one links to a discussion here to what real people are saying. People searching on Google will read the AB summary and then find their way here to real people’s opinions. So you’re looking in the wrong direction.

The goal is to continue to build the community around shared ideas and discussion. The more input I get the more I can refine it. The more people say I can do it myself if I wanted to is how people stay disconnected. IMO

Keep up the good work, I am not one who is going to read a bill or other lengthy pieces of . How many people really read all the pages of a contract for example Microsoft 365 and Adobe software. When I went to college in the stone age, we had cliff notes which gave us just the meat of the subject which would then lead me and others to delve into the book or subject matter if we needed to. I was slow to get into the AI phenomenon, I kept thinking of Skynet. Since using AI I can't count the numbers of hours it has saved from searching and pecking on the computer. So, if the Agent is giving me the meat of the Bill and if I need to, I will look for other sources.
Everybody has an out.

It’s interesting, you or I can’t have a Staccato P for a range toy because it isn’t drop safe, but cops can run in crowded public places with them because reasons.

There is nothing hypothetical about this, those guns have been proven to not be drop safe and cops are using them on duty. It takes bright minds to come up with this stuff.
