Just got a Ruger LCP max and am looking for suggestions for 380 ammo for training and defense. Just got my FFL03 + COE as well. Thanks

Flat nose FMJ........ JHP's don't build up enough speed in short barrels to reliably expand. Flat nose FMJ's will do the same amount of damage as a partly expanded JHP while getting way better penetration.

IF your LCP can reliably run lehigh xtreme defense rounds then go with them. They are by far the best 380 ammo to use in micro pistols. Not all guns can feed them though.

For defense I like Hornaday Critical Defense 90 gr FTX bullet.

For training anything that runs.

I've shot a pretty wide variety of .380 fmj and hollow point, recent purchased and 40 year old, through my lcpII, and don't recall any malfunctions. Is the Max actually picky?
