What's tactical?
Got my 2011 build back from coating and slide cutting today and it shoots great. I built this with a Cheely XWF frame, atlas slide, EGW internals, MJD grip. Things I learned for my next build:

  • 54 oz is too heavy for my preference (the XWF is the Xtra Wide frame usually used for Open Major guns and is heavier than the regular frame, with a steel grip this sucker was 54oz. It sits at just over 40oz now which I think is perfect.
  • Atlas slides are nice but their optic mounting system still sucks as much as any other plate system, it might actually be worse than some. Either way a direct mount DPP would have been better.
  • Grip shape/fit to your hands and traction matters more than weight for recoil control
  • It's obvious why 1911s/2011s are finicky but also why they perform well. Don't get into 2011s if you take your stuff to a gunsmith if it malfunctions unless you have a lot of money and time to waste. Learn to tune your sear springs and extractor tension.

JT actually makes a bottom fed rear pin assembly for AR15. For some reason they don’t list it on their website, but if you email they’ll hook it up. Paired it with a JL Billet Maglock, milled by AR15barrels (didn’t use the JL jig due to it being a billet lower). This setup works perfectly on the SLR B15 but requires a little fitting as these billet receiver sets are TIGHT.

ARMaglock said they were developing a bottom fed version of their Kingpin as well. I’d prefer that but haven’t heard any updates since June.
