What's tactical?
Got my 2011 build back from coating and slide cutting today and it shoots great. I built this with a Cheely XWF frame, atlas slide, EGW internals, MJD grip. Things I learned for my next build:

  • 54 oz is too heavy for my preference (the XWF is the Xtra Wide frame usually used for Open Major guns and is heavier than the regular frame, with a steel grip this sucker was 54oz. It sits at just over 40oz now which I think is perfect.
  • Atlas slides are nice but their optic mounting system still sucks as much as any other plate system, it might actually be worse than some. Either way a direct mount DPP would have been better.
  • Grip shape/fit to your hands and traction matters more than weight for recoil control
  • It's obvious why 1911s/2011s are finicky but also why they perform well. Don't get into 2011s if you take your stuff to a gunsmith if it malfunctions unless you have a lot of money and time to waste. Learn to tune your sear springs and extractor tension.

see you're using the Hellfire rear pin. Since the detent on these lowers is located from the bottom how are you installing for use? Guessing you arent using a pin just wondering if you found another solution (just means there is potential for it to rotate during use).
JT actually makes a bottom fed rear pin assembly for AR15. For some reason they don’t list it on their website, but if you email they’ll hook it up. Paired it with a JL Billet Maglock, milled by AR15barrels (didn’t use the JL jig due to it being a billet lower). This setup works perfectly on the SLR B15 but requires a little fitting as these billet receiver sets are TIGHT.

ARMaglock said they were developing a bottom fed version of their Kingpin as well. I’d prefer that but haven’t heard any updates since June.

A Kings Gunworks custom Commander, done back in the 1970s...S&W revolver rear sight, all King's parts. Very tight and accurate still after thousands of rounds. A 1917 Colt restored by Fink's Custom Gunsmithing, now the inhouse smith at Gunsite. I got it cheap as it had a bulged barrel. I replaced the barrel with a New Service barrel from a .45 Colt, so it was marked incorrectly, The DA required at least 2 fingers. Fink did a great job, rebluing, remarking the barrel correctly and Tyler Gunworks redid the Colt pony with the period correct version. The DA is smooth and the SA light and crisp.

Here's two lightweight ARs I put together. The LR-308 is 6.5 lbs without optics or magazine. The AR-15 is 4.5 lbs without optics or magazine

Little lightening modifications to the bolt carrier. Shaved off 2.68 oz with just this alone. Oz = lbs
