Most dealers will only show non Roster firearms to exempt individuals since the line of offer or expose for sale is gray.....California Code, Penal Code - PEN § 32000
(a)(1) A person in this state who manufactures or causes to be manufactured, imports into the state for sale, keeps for sale, offers or exposes for sale, gives, or lends an unsafe handgun shall be punished by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year.
I’m not sure I agree with that interpretation. When I go to the range and rent off roster stuff and shoot it, how is that ok but simply showing it to me isn’t?Most dealers will only show non Roster firearms to exempt individuals since the line of offer or expose for sale is gray.....
I didn't see "rent" in the Penal code.....I’m not sure I agree with that interpretation. When I go to the range and rent off roster stuff and shoot it, how is that ok but simply showing it to me isn’t?

Maybe if they are marked (not for sale/Display only) Gun Stores are not like Rolex dealers....
You’re bolding “offers or exposes for sale” as a reason for not showing an off roster gun. How is literally just handing someone a gun offering and exposing for sale but handing it to them and letting them shoot hundreds of rounds not?I didn't see "rent" in the Penal code.....
I don't have any Off Roster guns on display but I know when the CADOJ audits they ask to make sure they are clearly marked "Law Enforcement Only".
Yes, the penal code says I can not offer or expose for sale an unsafe handguns, but there is nothing saying I can't rent the same gun. You’re bolding “offers or exposes for sale” as a reason for not showing an off roster gun. That’s bat![]()
Ok maybe this is something you won’t do although I think you’re being a bit pedantic. There are dealers in so cal doing it and I read one had a range day with it.Yes, the penal code says I can not offer or expose for sale an unsafe handguns, but there is nothing saying I can't rent the same gun.
Laws say what you can't do, not what you can.
Having clear marking that this firearm is not for sale to someone unless they are exempt might get around it.
That said I don't know many dealers who want people handling guns for weeks until they get added to the roster and then try to sell them.
Show me CA dealers with off roster guns in the display case that do not have a LEO only sign...... Again nothing is the PC says you can not rent or let people shoot one.Ok maybe this is something you won’t do although I think you’re being a bit pedantic. No one said they wouldn’t have a sign. Doesn’t mean they won’t let you simply handle the gun for a min. Idk what shop you’re from but if you wanna be a stickler on your interpretation then you do you.Show me CA dealers with off roster guns in the display case that do not have a LEO only sign...... Literally never had this happen at multiple stores. It’s fine Reddit hooked it up with a place.Every gun store I've been to won't let you touch an off roster gun for sale
Every store is different. There's a few down in central CA that apparently sell off roster illegally to active duty military, so anything is possible hahaLiterally never had this happen at multiple stores. It’s fine Reddit hooked it up with a place.
Oh, Folsom? A bit of a drive just to hold itLiterally never had this happen at multiple stores. It’s fine Reddit hooked it up with a place.

Yup saw them at turners this morning and they indeed wouldn’t show them to me. Went to a LGS and they handed them right to me. This seems to be a big box store thing. I never go to turners, just happened to be having breakfast next door.Turner's has them, but as others have said, they're in the LEO case and they aren't showing them to random folks. I haven't seen them anywhere else yet.
That said, they look far better in person than in photos or in videos.
They have too much to lose risking anything in a grey area. LGS has a lot less money to loseYup saw them at turners this morning and they indeed wouldn’t show them to me. Also small shops normally don't have Lawyers or a full time compliance person to keep up on the laws. Most small shops get tons of violations because they just don't know. They have too much to lose risking anything in a grey area. LGS has a lot less money to lose
Same, and I even shoot competition with one of the dudes that was at Turners when I was there and he wouldn't even show me, lol.Yup saw them at turners this morning and they indeed wouldn’t show them to me.
