Any reason to keep gen 3 Glocks?

Also: considering the years they were in production, how widely they were used, and what organizations were using them...

So I'm definitely keeping my G20.3. But this is pretty much (not necessarily about the history) why I'm asking in the first place, especially since it's a G17.

For example, when you go on a site that does Glock upgrades, gen 3 is the default and you often have to specify gen 5.

While gen 3's and 5 are now discontinued, there's still A LOT of them out there and I suspect A LOT of people won't upgrade to gen 6 or will take quite some time to do so.

So I'm wondering how quickly the after/customization markets will respond.

But what if you have a third with a bunch of tools you don't use and it's in the way of better stuff and you can sell it and get way cooler tools that you will actually use/enjoy?

I'll never sell a 10mm socket.

Last year, sold my table saw and put that money toward a new Dewalt job site table saw that folds up and rolls away. Also, sold and upgraded my chop saw.

If you have a G17.5 and a G45.6 (with a spare 17 upper), is there any compelling reason to still hold onto a G17.3?

I don’t want to spend money on anything new unless it gives me something meaningfully better than my G17.3.

Then again, I already have two of them, four Glock 34s, including a Gen 5, two G19.3s... yada yada yada. At this point, a new gun has to actually bring something different to the table.

100 rounds of factory 124gr through a Glock 17 Gen 3 with an OSight X Green. Worked trigger control at speed, 50/50 drills at 10 yards, then 5-shot cadence drills from low ready -

People are selling them for $1200-1500 It’s getting ridiculous. And $2200 for a Gen 6. Gotta love supply and demand

Hard to say for sure because information on mid-late 80's firearm pricing isn't the easiest to find and I personally wasn't buying guns 35-40 years ago. From what I could quickly Google though, it appears by the late 80's Glocks were selling for about $300, while the 92FS was about $500.

Good point. If making space for other firearms using money from these sales, then this is a great time to sell your Glocks. Resale prices have never been higher. Was talking to my local gun store. Used Glocks such as G19 and G17 going for $1100 plus with about $800 going back to the seller.

Glock has a dirty habit of creating a "NEW" generation by jumping back and forth from previous designs choices. One Generation they decided a single pin design, the next now has two. Older design didn't have finger groves, the next generation does. People complained about the groves now the newest generation doesn't have them "WOW". Glock suckers the same people who buy apple products, by trying to convince you that their next design is innovative when its not.

Don't get me wrong I shoot the crap out of my Gen 3 and it eats everything (including sketchy rounds found on a range floor) but I wouldn't run to buy a gen 4, 5, knowing that the newest guns are neutered. But to answer the question, why would you sell what you already have ? any shooter would tell you that they have replaced Glock perfection with an aftermarket part at some point.

Disclaimer: seeking genuine opinions/experience here and not trying to subvert the classifieds process.

Nowadays, I'm not keeping anything around that I don't have a specific or practical use for. Not something like a Desert Eagle or Infinity so is there any practical reason to keep my G17.3 (and/or G19.5)?
For example, because I love SHTF as an excuse, would a 17.3 have better parts compatibility ("out in the wild") than a 17.5 or 47.5?

What I'm looking to pickup:
G47.5 (or G17.6) - with a spare 45 slide

Oh man, that’s earlier than mine. I’m only CE with an NTY barrel. Practically a Gen 6 haha!!

I do have the original black fire control parts though. I’ve heard those are sought after, so I took them out for safe keeping and replaced with modern silver so I don’t worry about shooting it.
