Not at all. Punishment must be severe for severe crimes. Punishment here and in other western countries has evolved from punishment to rehabilitation. Many cannot be rehabilitated.

Softer sentences creates less deterrent. I'm in favor of public executions. Hang 'um high in the town square where anyone can watch is a solid deterrent.

When evil perps see what will happen to them these public shootings will go way down. Give them a cushy cell with a color TV it's more like a vacation.

This is not even close to reality. These guys are ready to kill and die. There is only one way. They need to be killed/neutralized swiftly with extreme prejudice by fellow Citizens or right place right time LEOs. Several Female Bondi Police officers failed to engage.

If that hero that took the rifle away shot the perp he would be charged with murder in Australia. More than likely the surviving muzzy perp gets life in prison.

There he will get a soft bed, a prayer rug correctly pointed to Mecca, three square "ethically correct" meals a day, a color TV where he can watch Al Jazeera all day long and a nice gym where he can bulk up. Being a "special case" he will get his own cell with separation and isolation from the general prison population.

Exactly they dont have to deal with the diversity that the US does. Well Australia is getting a pretty good taste of it now. Look at Switzerland a homogeneous culture for the most part. Extremely safe and much cleaner than even the US of A.

The article was posted for it's news value. Our overall society is looking for answers to these obscene massacres, even if those answers are contrary to the desires of special interest groups. American society is eventually going to adopt solutions that have proven effective. If those special interest groups don't wake up and start participating in finding other solutions, our nation is going become fed up and make draconian changes.

It's not hard to understand, Australia has never been a very diverse country, demographic change happens very slowly, unlike ours. They also do not have a history like we do of the wild west, Mafia, gang violence, prohibition, etc. America was a rapid growing culture that consistently changes with its demographics. Most shootings in America are gang violence, and suicides. Also our population is much much larger. It's apples and oranges.

Same reason they have a culture. There’s unfortunately a conflict here because of the diversity. There’s a lot of countries with guns but the problem is unique to America in a lot of ways. South Africa is probably the closest to the US in terms of gun culture where Switzerland is more like the Philippines. Even the best shooters is from France/Poland/Washington State. The laws aren’t the problem in a lot of places but here they are along with the people. Double whammy

The elephant in the room is all those countries have lower income disparity due to high taxes and strong social safety net in the form of healthcare/welfare/high minimum wages etc. gangs are a function of poverty and a lack of economic opportunity. Same can be said about other forms of extremism.

It’s truly a shame that Australian citizens in the area were prevented from being armed to protect themselves against this exact sort of thing. One armed citizen could have ended that tragedy much sooner, and many lives could have been saved. Gun control turned the people at that Hanukkah celebration into nothing more than fish in a barrel.

Cherish, support, and defend the 2nd Amendment. Despite the pro-gun control rhetoric we constantly hear in this state (and, surprisingly, even from certain people on this supposedly pro-2A site), just remember one simple truth: Making good people helpless doesn’t make bad people harmless.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again.

I'll stop saying "thoughts and prayers" once the media stops saying "Known to police/local authorities"

Just like when people say that assault rifles are only for mass murder, when in fact according the the FBI Uniform Crime Reports, all rifle homicides nationwide are around 400 per year. Knives kill 4 times that. Fists and feet about 3 times.

I'm surprised they didn't already charge the man who tacked and took the gun away from the one killer with illegal gun possession yet!
