I've purchased dozens of firearms in the past years and never had a reason to worry my DROS wouldn't go through. The FFL asked if I had purchased 3 firearms in the last 30 days and I said "no" but wasn't sure. Driving home I get a call saying my DROS was rejected because I had purchased 3 in the last 30. This is not limited to just in store purchases. This is PPT's and store purchases combined. So be very careful about the number of purchases in your last 30 days. BUT there is an exemption. If you have your FFL03 and COE you may purchase as many firearms as you like. Not just curios and relics. This counts for any modern firearm. The FFL doing the DROS needs to select EXEMPTION from the drop down menu and add your FFL03 and COE license numbers. So I had to contact my seller and we met back at the FFL and ran the DROS again using my licenses. What a mess if you are not careful with this going forward.

Great PSA. I did know this but it's so rare that I buy three guns in 30 days. I have my FFL03 and COE so if for some reason I'm on a buying spree I'll know to bring my credentials with me.

Glad you were able to recover from the rejection with the right docs!

I always have the FFL run the DROS (even for one firearm) as 3-in-30 exempt.

Saves the trouble of keeping track of purchases, both past and future.

I was very fortunate that the seller didn't try and take advantage of the situation. I did kick him a few bucks for coming back.

Instruct the person submitting the DROS to select the EXEMPTION DROPDOWN MENU.
They then select "Collector with COE".
The system will prompt them to fill in your FFL03 license number and your COE license number.

If they say "this is only for curios and relics" they are wrong. You might need to go to an FFL that knows what they are doing.

The day I'm able to buy 3 guns in 30 days is the day I hit the lotto.

Struggling No Money GIF

I try to pace myself. If I bought three guns in one month, I'd OD. Medics would be narcaning me.
Can’t let that DROS go to waste, haha!!

“I’m actually *saving* money buying more than one at a time!” Haha!!

I just did my application for FFL03 and COE yesterday. This just happened to someone I did a trade with for PPT. Had to wait a few weeks and he had re dros and I had to be there as well. The three and 30 was affecting me on some really good deals not that I need all the time but sometimes there are blowout sales and people are just trying to get rid of what they can and it’s nice to put everything on one dros. The direct shipment of ammo, the abilities of C&R. Elimination of bringing a second proof of residency and no need to get an FSC. It just finally made sense to me. You are correct though make sure that whenever you are doing any firearm transactions, you need to remind them of your FFL03 and they need to select the correct exemptions

Crazy that we are hitting this limit lmao

I’m a dang ol collector man. I get what you’re saying, but it has happened to me a couple times where I’m making a deal for a gun and a guy is trying to get rid of a few more and make it a pretty sweet deal and you get to put it all on one dros and then I remember oh shoot I’m at my limit.

My FFL just a week ago mentioned PPTs are now included in this 3 in 30 deal which I was not aware of. I also didn't know the FFL03/COE makes me exempt. Great post.

Good to know! Thank you

I've been putting my ffl03+coe to use in a couple of my last PPTs just in case I come across something I like in a LGS or big box place and I don't have my ffl03+coe on me.

Great benefit, btw.
