BLM/NON-REGULATED RANGE NEAR SACRAMENTO?

YOLO is my go-to range for working up loads but their rules are extremely lame (1 shot every 1 second, no steel targets, no humanoid silhouette targets, wooden structure “vertical limiters” in front of the benches which limit shooters’ visibility on 50/100 yd ranges, etc.)

SLY PARK/MORMON EMIGRANT for everything else where you can bring your own steel, ballistic gel blocks, shoot as fast as your heart desires, etc.

Problem is, both these ranges are 40-90 minutes from Sacramento. Does anyone have a SAFE, unregulated land (BLM, private property, etc) closer to me that they are willing to give up? Private messages are not only understandable, but welcomed & encouraged!!

Thanks, guys!

Camp Far West outside of Wheatland. Depending on the day and time it can be a zoo and a little dangerous. On weekdays it can be deserted.

You mean this place? Doesn’t look like much of a range. Do you fire over the water? Or is the range somewhere else?

there's definitely nothing closer than an hour, just look at a map there's no BLM land around Sacramento. Everywhere you can shoot is marked on google maps so you can find it pretty easily but as I said, there's nothing close an most of it is closed more than half the year for fire.

Spenceville is probably your best bet however it is a little over an hour away from Sacramento. It is regulated however no full time staff on site. Rangers will come and check in from time to time. Only had one instance of a person shoot during a ceasefire while down range setting up targets. Be safe, clean up after yourself and you'll have a great time.

Anyone shot at the Oroville range like that? Oof. Also more like 2.2+ hours

If you are talking about the oroville range off Larkin. Yes its a fantastic range.. very clean with concrete seats and gravel entry.. yeah its a bit far but I only drive up there when I need to range/sight in in my hunting rifles. heavily looked down upon if you bring stuff to shoot there and just leave it there.. so make sure you clean up shells, stands, etc before you leave cause they have trash bags there to throw your stuff away..

You can do a trial subscription to OnX Hunt App, it shows you BLM land. You can also subscribe to OnX OffRoad app to get to places you find on OnX Hunt. There's an excellent outdoor range on Ione Rd just off Hwy 16 past Rancho Murrieta. You should go check it out.

pay a subscription to publicly available free data? LMAO

Short answer: no, there isn't any public land to shoot on that is less than 40 minutes from Sacramento. Think about it: Sacramento is in the valley, which is very well developed. You have to travel farther north or to the mountains in the east to get to any public land that you can shoot on.

What’s closer than 1.5 hours?

I wish I had BLM land to shoot only 40 minutes away. More like 2 hours here.
