Wouldn't the solution to all this be to... meet in person and inspect the firearm? that's what I do whenever I buy from a private party. You can see everything up close irl than in a picture.All of those thousands of great photos on gun forums are easily searched and if found to be listed on other forums, the likelihood of a scam is high. Unique emailed photos that are not already displayed elsewhere are easier to convince someone of because you can't just do a 3 second google image search and find they're posted elsewhere already.
Bc how do I even know the pictures I see in an email haven't been photoshopped or made to look better than the firearm is? That's just my 2 cents.
