California Assembly Bill 1421 Mileage Tax Coming Soon...Tell your Reps you will remember how they vote!

Presumably this mileage tax will be exclusively on miles driven on California roads. Now I’m supposed to keep track of miles I drive in California versus other neighboring states.

Or medicine, doctor visits, pay rent, groceries, PG&E...its a long list.

The bill passed the Assembly Third Reading with a 49-21 vote on January 29, 2026, and is moving forward in the legislative process.

Please call your Reps, tag them on social media, tell them you will remember how they vote! This will cost a family with 2 cars almost $5k/year in MORE taxes! That's your vacation money, your kids braces, the Atlas you want, or paying down that credit card!

Not about guns but kinda is, because you could use that money to buy guns.

You do know that this is a Pilot Program extension that has been going on now for over a decade. They are extending the pilot program until 2027 to do more research. They are not imposing any taxes just yet.

at times I think ignorance is bliss but then I come on this forum and see how intent these fools are in being miserable because they can't do math or read the bills. I particularly call attention to the mouth breathers who speak through emojis and think that we are the only state that pays taxes. Meanwhile Texas actually spends more than us on roads (in total) and has 25% less people so they actually pay more per capita than we do.

There is no mileage tax proposed as part of AB 1421, it's to authorize a committee to look at replacing the gas tax with a mileage tax so that electric cars also pay for roads. The numbers you are citing are completely made up because there is no proposal within the bill so if someone told you that, they think you are retarded and can't read. We already have a per mile tax built into the system it's called the gas tax.

The only retards are people that think a tax will ever get replaced. Taxes only get added.
