CAP Tactical Firearms- Lawndale (LA)

CAP Tactical Firearms

Lawndale, CA 90260

CAP Tactical Firearms is a new shop for me, it was selected by another member who sold me a 590. Let me tell you, one of the cleanest FFL’s I’ve been to. There was no line, Luis at the counter was chill but focused on making it a quick and easy experience, I was out in 20. The store is quiet and relaxing, you can’t really hear the busy street and they keep nice guns in stock (they had an M&P metal in their display).

Bill , Will and the rest of the staff are great to work with. Bill is the most legit firearms expert i have ever spoken with .
oh yeah . . . . . . great prices too , on new and previously owned

Recently tried to do a PPT here - Turns out they don't do that after 3 pm.
Drove 40 minutes to "meet in the middle" with the buyer. He was coming from Bakersfield.

We walked in, and the shop wasn't busy. Talk to the guy at the counter:

"We're here to do a PPT."
"Oh, we don't do that after 3p"
"Is there any way that we can make an exception? We both came quite a distance."
"Unfortunately, no."
"Is this policy anywhere on your website? Because I didn't see it."
"I don't believe it is no."

So we went to Turners instead.
I posted it online - emphasizing the 3 pm rule. CAP responded.

They responded, saying they have had that rule for 3 years. I asked again if it was on their site. They said they stopped using their site since 2020.

Might want to call ahead if you want to do business with them. If they couldn't keep up with the website, what else could that lead to?

The reason I was given for not updating the website was that too many people would order things they couldn't legally have in CA. Probably off-roster handguns or something. So they would have to pay a restocking fee to the distributors.

Edit - I know FFLs can make their own rules regarding PPTs.

That’s f’d up. I had no idea, I only went once at 11 to purchase a Mossberg from someone on the site. Sorry you had such a sh*+ experience pushing you to turners smh

Clearly they don’t want to deal with updating or categorizing certain firearms appropriately

exact thing happened to me when I was ppting an ar to a friend. Had to go down the street to turners, worked out tho bc I bought a 365 x macro comp for 500 off of some dude trying to consign it there

Yea I did a PPT once there too similar instance was past 3pm but they are cool people just small FFL. The owner is mostly now in the background leaving his son running things but there operations are tailored around there schedule since theres only 3 employees 2 which is the father and son.

Yeah - shop seems nice, clean and straightforward - If they dont use the site, they should at least put it on their IG. Because they responded to my story within a couple hours.

I bought a gun and sent to CAP once and never again. It took them 1 to 2 to inventory into their system then I can DROS. I always make the drive now to Rifle Gear in Fountain Valley now great service and they price match up to a certain point out there and if your gun arrived from buying online you can Dros same day.

RifleGear my go to spot plus only shop I know that does single shot conversion and back to DA for off roster revolvers for onetime $50.

LOL at this post. Cap SUCKS.

I went to do a PPT. We did not have a magazine for the gun. They did not let us do the PPT because of that...

Are you f'in kidding me?? They could have at least offered to do the safety test with another gun but nope.

Not to mention every employee looks like they got a stick up their ass.

Happily gave my business to LA Cerakote

When you're a small operation, it really is worthwhile to remember, "The customer is always right."

Unless you want to stay small.

It's a tough & competitive business to be in, especially with CA's hostile climate. Making it worse for yourself with uncompromising, unfriendly practices is just plain shooting yourself in the foot. Why bother?

That said, I'd give them one try before ever resorting to Turner's.

They refused to ppt more than 1 firearm per transaction. They claimed that this was their policy due to limited storage space. We wanted to ppt 2 firearms. Absolutely ridiculous and none of this was posted on their website... Go some other place.

sorry my original rating for CAP was "too good"
i would never rate a firearms shop by their PPT ability .
"walk-in" PPT s ? really ? never tried doing that at any SoCal shop .
. . . . . . i guess that works at Turners . . . . . take a number and wait a couple hours .
PPT in the south bay area . . . . . Prime Kinetic Solutions . appointment only . but you are in and out in 30 min or less.

Did a few PPT's there. All smooth. Then I was the buyer. Got the delay letter from the DOJ. I should have checked their FAQ more carefully. They do NOT release on undetermined. Called to confirm and was told seller will need to come back and we can restart the process. Will see how my recent purchase works out when I get to 30 days in a couple of weeks, but I will not be using them again.
